Winemaker Australian Vintage recently set up carbon footprint reporting that tracks the company's greenhouse gas emission savings in real time. The JD Edwards EnterpriseOne customer started tracking its carbon footprint at the request of one of its largest suppliers, Britain's Tesco supermarket chain.
According to Australian Vintage CIO Ryan Klose, Tesco had asked for data on how "green" its supply chain was. "Tesco wanted to know what we were doing to reduce our carbon footprint," recalls Klose.
The company uses an Oracle product, Business Activity Monitoring, to get up-to-the-minute data on its carbon footprint across the supply chain, from the time an order is submitted to when it is executed. It also provides alerts when congestion or delays occur. Australian Vintage also uses another tool from Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to track all business activity that has measureable carbon outputs at the time of procurement, manufacturing, and planning. "We're taking a pioneering role in this and trying to lead as an innovative supplier," says Klose.
