Now Available: JD Edwards World JDBC driver for use with BI Publisher

INCREASE YOUR REPORTING CAPABILITIES USING JD EDWARDS WORLD DATA

Oracle announces the delivery of a major new enhancement: a JDBC driver created specifically for JD Edwards World applications. The driver is a software component that allows Java applications such as BI Publisher to access the JD Edwards World database.

Oracle previously announced the availability of BI Publisher to simplify and greatly improve the formatting and distribution of reports. All licensed JD Edwards World customers who are current on maintenance have been granted restricted use licenses to Oracle BI Publisher at no additional cost. The JD Edwards World JDBC Driver adds versatility to the existing interface to BI Publisher for customers on Releases A9.1 and A9.2. It also makes it possible for customers on Releases A7.3 and A8.1 to solve their reporting needs with BI Publisher. Because the JDBC driver has been released as a feature of JD Edwards World and is part of maintenance, JD Edwards World customers can experience considerable cost savings by eliminating purchased solutions for reporting.

ABOUT ORACLE BI PUBLISHER

Oracle BI Publisher is a web-based application, installed on a Windows or Unix (Linux) server. It allows the creation and delivery of all types of highly formatted documents. No proprietary design studio is required; end users design reports using software they are probably already familiar with, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, or Adobe Acrobat. The resulting template is combined with data, and the report can be viewed online or delivered to a printer, email, fax, FTP, or WebDAV. Report headings and static text can be translated into 185 languages, and do not require purchase of language-specific printers. Oracle BI Publisher has the capability of combining data from many data sources for consolidated reporting.

ABOUT THE JD EDWARDS WORLD JDBC DRIVER

The JDBC driver allows a Java application such as BI Publisher to retrieve data from the JD Edwards World database. Users create SQL statements in BI Publisher to provide data for their reports. Several properties can be set to customize how the JD Edwards World tables and SQL statements appear. The driver converts Julian dates, decimal positions and performs Presumptive Joins in the same manner as the JD Edwards World Writer. It enforces standard business decisions from JD Edwards World. For security purposes, users of the JDBC Driver must be valid users of JD Edwards World applications.
