PeopleTools and Web 2.0

OVERVIEW

Web 2.0 describes the trends in web applications and web design that enhance creativity, information sharing, and, most importantly, collaboration among users. These concepts enable the creation and evolution of web-based communities that, in an enterprise setting, can enhance business process efficiency and effectiveness. The term "Web 2.0" doesn't refer to any new technical specification or particular version of software. Rather, it refers to a group of enabling technologies that change the ways in which software developers and end-users build and use Web applications.

PeopleSoft began providing Web 2.0 features such as Discussion Forums and Online document management in 2003 when the term 'Web 2.0' had not yet been coined. This came with the release of Enterprise Portal 8.9. We have continued to improve the collaborative features of Enterprise Portal, making it a leader in Web 2.0 capabilities. We extended collaborative functionality particularly with the delivery of Collaborative Workspaces and other community features. The coming release will include several additional important Web 2.0 modules, and the ability to employ Web 2.0 functionality directly within PeopleSoft applications.
