Oracle Hong Kong and the Oracle Education Foundation have launched Think.com to help promote technology skills to students in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China.
Local students will be able to build knowledge, collaborate on projects and share educational content with more than 336,000 students and teachers from 45 countries who are already members of Think.com’s protected online learning community.
In Asia Pacific, Think.com is being used by more than 194,000 students and teachers in 3,757 schools across Australia, China, India, New Zealand, Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
“Think.com provides students and teachers with access to the latest technology and the collaborative learning skills needed in today’s global workforce,” said Clare Dolan, Vice President, Oracle Corporate Citizenship. “The highly interactive, educational environment encourages students to use technology to share ideas and information in ways that help prepare them for future success. Technology skills are an important part of a 21st century education that will prepare tomorrow’s citizens to become part of the global society. We are proud to introduce Think.com to Hong Kong as a component of our global commitment to education.”
Think.com is sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation. It provides schools with a protected, interactive learning community where students and teachers are granted a Web space to design and implement learning projects within their class, or with other schools globally. Think.com’s online collaboration and search tools make the creation and management of learning projects both easy and fun. Students who use Think.com develop skills in areas such as teamwork, technology, communication, global understanding, and creativity in protected environment.
The Oracle Education Foundation plans to introduce Think.com in Hong Kong schools to add 4,000 users in 2008.
“We have an increasing focus on project-based learning within the school and Think.com enables us to add an online dimension that can enrich our students’ learning experience,” said Mak Lai Ying, Principal, Singapore International School. “The Think.com community empowers students to get input not only from their peers and teachers but also others in the Think.com learning community. They can also learn from each other’s projects. This e-collaboration platform promotes independent learning and critical thinking.”
Think.com is available in 11 languages: Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, and Turkish. The Oracle Education Foundation provides a comprehensive teacher training program so that participating teachers can effectively integrate Think.com into their classroom curriculum.
“Think.com is a truly unique, global education program, designed to connect students and technology in ways that positively impact their lives and the communities in which they live,” said Clare. “Hong Kong students will now be able to join the thousands of students worldwide that have benefited from the Oracle Education Foundation's Think.com program -- building vital skills for their future.”
