Oracle Philippines was recently awarded a Certificate of Merit from the American Chamber of Commerce for its continued commitment to education and for excellence in corporate citizenship in the Philippines.
Oracle was the only software company to make the finalist roster and was recognized for improving quality and access to education by introducing the Oracle Academy program to schools across the country.
“We are very honored to be named a finalist in first AmCham CSR Excellence Awards. This is an exciting achievement for Oracle as we continue to help improve the community. The Oracle Academy offers students across the Philippines access to first-rate curriculum and provides vital technology skills needed for success in 21st century careers,” said Francis Ong, Managing Director, Oracle Philippines.
In 2007, Oracle and the Philippines Department of Education launched the Oracle Academy’s Introduction to Computer Science program as part of the national curriculum. This nationwide rollout provided students and teachers with access to the Oracle Academy’s state-of-the-art curriculum in database design and programming. As a result, Oracle and the Department of Education have helped raise the IT competence of high school students countrywide.
Additionally, the Oracle Academy works directly with participating schools to provide extensive teacher training, ongoing professional development and support, a state-of-the-art curriculum, and an online learning and development environment.
Francis added, “There’s never been a more exciting time in the global marketplace. IT and technology have become critical to help optimize the growth and performance of companies. The training offered through the Oracle Academy will help enable this country become a new leader in the knowledge-based future.”
The Oracle Academy supports more than 397,000 students in 83 countries. By partnering with schools, districts, and ministries that believe in early career preparation, the Oracle Academy helps students develop the technology and business skills required for 21st century careers. Participating institutions may integrate Oracle’s cutting-edge software and curriculum into their courses and avail their faculty to first-class professional development opportunities.
