May 2008

On April 23, 2008, the Institute for Electronic Governance (IEG), an initiative of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Oracle India and the Oracle Academy to introduce the Oracle Academy’s business and technology curriculum to students in Andhra Pradesh.

“At IEG, we aim to transform Andhra Pradesh into a knowledge society through the Jawahar Knowledge Centre initiative. This is in line with the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s reform process, which attempts to bridge the gaps between industry and academia and make students more employable. Our collaboration with the Oracle Academy will extend to our 342 engineering colleges and will address the skills gap in over 50,000 students seeking to join the IT industry,” said, Amarnath Reddy, CEO, IEG.

The Jawahar Knowledge Centre initiative is designed to achieve inclusive growth by providing students all around the state of Andhra Pradesh with employable and industry grade skills. As part of the MOU, 342 Jawahar Knowledge Centre faculty members will receive intensive training in the Oracle Academy curriculum so that they may help their students gain vital business and technology skills for 21st century careers. The first batch of 100 faculty members completed five-day training workshops at two different events conducted May 5-6, 2008.

Students from Andhra Pradesh will join the more than 103,000 students from more than 900 education institutions in the Asia Pacific region who have already benefited from the Oracle Academy program.

“The Oracle Academy provides students with access to the business and technology skills required for 21st century careers, ” said Krishan Dhawan, Managing Director, Oracle India. “The program helps students develop real-world skills and knowledge that align with industry needs, so that students who participate in the Oracle Academy have a head-start even before they enter the workforce.”

The Oracle Academy supports more than 397,000 students in 83 countries. By partnering with schools, districts, and ministries that believe in early career preparation, the Oracle Academy helps students develop the technology and business skills required for 21st century careers. Participating institutions may integrate Oracle’s cutting-edge software and curriculum into their courses and avail their faculty to first-class professional development opportunities.
