On March 11, 2003 Oracle was honored by the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network for Oracle employees' commitment to volunteerism in communities around the country. Of particular note wass Oracle's Global Volunteer Days, which engaged over 2,000 employees in 30 countries volunteering over 11,000 hours.
This employee interest in community involvement is the driving force behind Oracle's corporate volunteer program. Established in 1991, Oracle Volunteers creates opportunities for Oracle employees to actively address social needs and make a measurable, positive impact in the community. Oracle volunteers lend their skills to install computer equipment in schools, create audio recordings of company technical manuals for the disabled, and serve as e-mail mentors to young women studying science and engineering.
