Oracle Corporation Malaysia and the Oracle Education Foundation have announced winners of Malaysia’s first-ever Think.com collaboration contest held in May-June 2007. Think.com is an online learning environment that helps students develop vital skills for success in the 21st century.
The Think.com contest was open to Malaysian primary and secondary schools that are members of the Think.com community. The coaches and students who participated in the competition created original online projects on age-appropriate topics using the Think.com environment. Students collaborated with peers from within their district to develop their projects. Representatives from the Ministry of Education and facilitators from the participating schools judged the final entries. The winning projects were evaluated for quality, originality, collaboration, creativity, and strong critical thinking.
The Best Team Award went to the students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Tumpat, Kelantan, for their Road Safety project. Second place went to the students from Sekolah Menengah Jelai (F) Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, for their Space Exploration entry. The two coaches from these top teams, En. Mokhtar and En. Noorhaslin, also won first and second place, respectively, in the Best Coach category.
Additionally, students from the following schools were recognized as winners in their respective age group categories: Sekolah Kebangsaan Serom 3, Muar, Johor; Sekolah Kebangsaan Tumpat, Kelantan; Sekolah Menengah Jelai (F) Kuala Pilah -N.Sembilan Group 1; Sekolah Menengah Jelai (F) Kuala Pilah -N.Sembilan Group 1; and Sekolah Menengah Jelai (F) Kuala Pilah -N.Sembilan Group 5.
The Best Team members each received certificates, plaques, and a 1GB PenDrive. The second place winners each received certificates, plaques, and a 256MB PenDrive. The Best Coach received a certificate, plaque, and an Apple iPod Nano 4GB, and the second place winner received a certificate, plaque, and an Apple iPod Nano 2GB.
Oracle Corporation Malaysia and the Oracle Education Foundation signed an agreement to implement Think.com in Malaysia in 2006. To date, Think.com has been used in 801 schools across Malaysia and 12,000 Malaysian students and teachers have been able to build knowledge, collaborate on projects, and share educational content with the 277,000 students and teachers from 50 countries who are also members of the Think.com community.
