As part of Oracle's commitment to strengthen educational opportunities, Oracle is contributing to Argentina's growth through the EnterTech scholarship program. EnterTech augments Argentina's technology education and provides for collaborative work among Oracle, other IT companies like Sun Microsystems, the Local Software Chamber (CESSI), the public sector, and the software industry.
As part of this initiative, the Labor Minister of Argentina will provide 2,500 scholarships to study Oracle and Sun curricula. Of these 2,500 scholarships, 100 are designated for students with disabilities. Also, 100 scholarship winners will study in special institutions such as ALPI and DISCAR in Argentina.
In conjunction with the Labor Minister's initiative, Oracle will use our Workforce Development Program (WDP) to train 1,000 scholarship winners in Oracle Fundamentals I and Oracle 10g Java Programming with standard pricing and scheduling. Training will take place in WDP-authorized centers using our alliance with Fundacion Proydesa.
"Three years ago, Oracle began to work on a Massive IT Training Program focused on generating IT-qualified resources for the market and making technology easy to access for all," said Alejandro de León, Managing Director, Oracle Argentina. "The objective was to create a program at the national level to promote genuine job postings. Today the dream comes true with more than 1,500 students learning about Java Programming and Oracle Database Administration in 25 universities, maximizing the human resources demanded by the IT industry. Oracle wanted to make education available to all who were qualified and interested in pursuing careers in the technology industry."
This Massive IT Training Program was an initiative from Oracle University Argentina that was implemented in March 2004—not only in Argentina, but also in Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia. Today the program has 65 professionals trained and certified in Oracle's technology. Moreover, we have 230 students who have graduated from the program and have access to a Labor Web to share resumes and make contact with partners and other companies during their job search.
