Oracle Volunteers Share Ceramic Arts with Disadvantaged Children in Taiwan

Oracle volunteers, together with their families and friends, took the children of the Northern Region Children’s Home on a field trip to the Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum during Oracle Global Volunteer Days (GVD) 2006.

Named “Yingge Cultural Adventure in Ceramics Arts,” the Oracle GVD 2006 project in Taiwan was co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Taipei Hwa Yang and the Taipei Country Yingge Ceramics Museum. It was the third year that the Northern Region Children’s Home, an indigenous non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the well-being of underprivileged children in northern Taiwan, participated in the project.

In an extensive tour of the Yingge Ceramics museum, volunteers and children had the chance to observe the complete ceramic production process, including clay production, pot throwing, and firing, and also participated in the creation of their own clay pots and designs. Following this they enjoyed a visit to the old Yingge streets surrounding the museum.

“Oracle works actively to address community needs and improve the quality of life in the communities,” said Gary Wu, Managing Director, Oracle Taiwan. “We are proud that Oracle employees and their families demonstrated their enthusiasm, energy, and genuine interest in serving the community as they accompanied and took care of the children of the home during the field trip.”

Developed and managed by Oracle Volunteers, GVD is a corporate initiative created to encourage and support employee involvement within local communities. This year’s event — held from September 16-30, 2006 — saw more than 3,900 Oracle employees work more than 23,000 hours on 133 projects in 37 countries around the globe.
