More than 90 educators, consultants, and vendor representatives from 15 countries and regions gathered in November 2006 in the Southwestern China city of Jiuzhaigou for a two-day Oracle Asia Pacific Education Conference.
The conference, which was co-sponsored by Oracle and Southwest University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), focused on the hot-button issue of “Bridging the Divide Between Industries and Academia.”
Keynote speakers, including Clare Dolan, Vice President, Oracle Education Initiatives; Yan Xuan, Vice President, Government and Business Development, Oracle Greater China; and Ding Renzhong, Vice President, SWUFE, offered ideas and solutions on how universities can match their information technology and business management curricula more closely with today’s industry needs.
“Industry applications are of high interest and importance in the development of a well-trained IT workforce,” said Ding. “Only by nurturing a new generation of students equipped with industry knowledge and skills can our academic institutions achieve the goal of providing qualified graduates for the 21st Century.”
“As the fastest growing economy in the world, China faces a short supply of talent and incorporating technology into education is a critical part of Oracle’s Golden China initiative. As this conference demonstrates, Oracle has teamed well with education leaders and academic institutions and is launching innovative programs to help ease China’s talent shortage,” said Yan.
