On July 14, 2006, Oracle employees volunteered their time and energy and Oracle made a $20,000 corporate donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties in California. The donation is specifically earmarked for sponsorship of Second Harvest's Family Harvest distribution site located at the Fair Oaks Community Center in Redwood City.
The Family Harvest Program is one of the Food Bank's direct service programs and provides supplemental groceries to low-income families at sites within their local neighborhood. Oracle's assistance will allow Second Harvest to provide additional food each month for needy families at this site.
"We developed this program to provide corporations with an opportunity to directly impact a specific segment of the population," said Beth DeWolf, Senior Director, Development and Communications, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. "Oracle has been a long-time supporter of the Food Bank and we are thrilled that they are sponsoring this Family Harvest site."
Because Second Harvest is an Oracle Community Impact Grant partner, in addition to the cash donation, Oracle's sponsorship includes volunteer opportunities for employees to become actively involved in the location. With Community Impact Grants, we have expanded our involvement with nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated leadership and innovation in the community and that have welcomed our employees as they have volunteered their time and talents.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties' Family Harvest program provides monthly groceries to low-income families with dependent children. The program serves an average of 2,735 households each month through distribution sites like Fair Oaks Community Center in Redwood City. The average monthly income for a family of four is $1,280.
"We strive to be a part of the communities we serve and are excited to be expanding our successful relationship with Second Harvest," said Carole Lam-Chin, Senior Manager, Global Corporate Citizenship, Oracle.
