Oracle China Significantly Expands Graduate Development and Internship Programs

Oracle China has launched two programs: the Oracle Graduate Development Program 2007 for fresh college graduates and the Oracle Internship Program 2007 for current college students. Under these two programs, Oracle will support a significantly larger number of recruits, and cities and universities from which students will be selected.

“China is a key market for Oracle. As the world’s largest enterprise software company, our goal is to accelerate the adoption of information technology, the development of software industry, and the grooming of IT talent in China,” said Roger Li, Regional Managing Director, Oracle Greater China. “The launch of our 2007 graduate development and internship programs is a hallmark of Oracle’s continued commitment to develop Chinese IT talent.”

“In China, the value of education is highly recognized. As China increases its emphasis on bringing up younger generations that are able to meet 21st century challenges, Oracle is forging ahead with well-tiered and inter-related education programs,” said Yan Xuan, Vice President, Government Affairs and Business Development, Oracle Greater China.

Graduate Programs
Now in its fourth year, Oracle’s graduate development program offers graduates with a Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate degree two years of classroom and on-the-job training through a comprehensive curriculum to acquire world-leading IT knowledge and practices. Trainees who make it through the program’s highly rigorous and competitive selection process have a unique opportunity to benefit from the program, which aims to produce the industry’s most competitive and skilled high-end IT professionals.

The trainees are exposed to a full range of Oracle’s operations following a well-designed rotational program, and are mentored by seasoned IT professionals, managers, and executives. The participants receive training to build key business competencies such as communication and presentation skills, motivational skills, change management, planning and organizational skills, and effective teamwork. The trainees are also offered opportunities to interact with and learn from their peers and managers not only in China, but also in other Asia Pacific countries.

Oracle introduced the 2007 program to 28 universities in 11 cities through campus forums. Oracle held events in core cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu, as well as in growth cities such as Chongqing, Xian, Shenyang, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Dalian, and Shenzhen. More than 8,000 applications were received of which 100 applicants will be chosen to participate in the program, which commences in July 2007.

Meanwhile, the Oracle Asian Development Center in China also will recruit 100 fresh college graduates in 2007 to beef up its research and development force. The graduates will join Oracle between now and July 2007.

Internship Programs
To complement the graduate development program and further enhance the scope and value of Oracle’s co-operation with the Chinese Ministry of Education and various universities, Oracle’s second major education initiative in China – the Oracle Internship Program – aims to provide current college students with practical IT knowledge and skills training.

The three-month hands-on training outside of their classrooms will help prepare them for future careers. At Oracle, the participants will be able to learn about the latest technologies in enterprise software such as grid computing, service-oriented architecture, and information-age applications and how these technologies are applied to meet various industry needs.

Initially, Oracle will select 30 interns who major in computer science, IT, electronic engineering, educational technology, management, or English from universities in Beijing, Chengdu, and Xi’an. The interns will come on board in March 2007.

Meanwhile, Oracle’s global support center in Dalian also is working with local universities to provide internship opportunities for local students in 2007.

“As a global company with 18 years of operational experience in China, Oracle has successfully addressed the needs of this market and its employees by focusing on innovation, meritocracy, and entrepreneurial spirit – key tenants of our corporate culture,” Roger said. “This is acknowledged in the industry. For example, Oracle was voted one of China’s top 10 employers in 2006 and profiled by China’s state television CCTV. I strongly believe that like-minded young participants in both programs will enjoy our corporate culture as much as our technology.”
