More than 700 students from 20 schools in Pakistan have joined Think.com, a protected online learning community sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation, where students can share educational content, collaborate on projects, and build knowledge. They’re the first in their country’s program to collaborate with the 300,000 students and teachers from 50 countries who are already Think.com members.
“Think.com is truly a unique educational program, designed to bring together students and technology in ways that positively impact learning,” said Clare Dolan, Vice President, Oracle Education Initiatives.
“Students worldwide have benefited from the Foundation's Think.com and ThinkQuest programs, building vital technology, collaboration, and other 21st Century skills.”
Think.com provides support for school communities to benefit from protected email accounts, personal Web pages where they can publish text and upload images, and a collaborative working environment where they can engage in discussions and projects with members around the world. Think.com is available in nine languages, including Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, and Turkish.
“Think.com’s collaborative environment offers students the opportunity to use technology in the classroom in a very hands-on manner. By incorporating Think.com into daily lessons and curriculum, it can help enhance their learning experiences, across all subject areas from mathematics and science to languages,” said Samina Rizwan, Regional Director, Oracle SAGE West. “Additionally, Think.com allows a rich exchange of information between students of different cultures, greatly enhancing their global perspective. Teachers also can communicate with parents about their students' engagement in this online community.”
Local media such as Computerworld Pakistan reported on the Think.com program launch.
To date, more than 98,002 students and teachers across seven countries in Asia Pacific (Australia, China, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand) are using Think.com to communicate and collaborate with one another. The estimated in-kind value for Think.com in Asia Pacific is USD $980,020, as of September 30, 2006.
