ORACLE AND BORLAND BOOST DEVELOPER PRODUCTIVITY
Borland to Include Oracle9i Application Server Integration Plug-in for JBuilder(tm) 6
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.   26-NOV-2001 06:00 AM    Oracle Corp, the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced integration of Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS) with Borland(R) JBuilder(tm) 6, the market leading Java(tm) development environment. Using the new integration plug-in for JBuilder 6, developers can realize significant timesavings when building applications for Oracle9i Application Server. A free Oracle9iAS development license is included on the JBuilder 6 Companion Tools CD, enabling developers to benefit from Oracle9iAS' lightweight footprint and performance.

Ultimate Productivity
Java's portability and productivity, while offering tremendous benefits to developers, has typically required significant computing resources for deployment. To address this problem, Oracle has focused on delivering the industry's lightest, most efficient J2EE server. With its J2EE environment, Oracle9iAS has an extremely lightweight Java footprint, requiring less memory than any of the other leading application servers, and superior scalability. Its tight integration with Borland JBuilder 6, the market leading Java development environment, provides developers a time-efficient solution for J2EE application development and deployment.

"Customers using the award-winning Borland JBuilder 6 have the unique capability of deploying applications on their choice of J2EE application server platforms," said Tony de la Lama, vice president of Java solutions for Borland. "Borland is pleased that Oracle has released Oracle9i Application Server Plug-In for JBuilder 6, which offers customers the market-leading Java development environment with a robust application server."

Key benefits of the integration of JBuilder 6 and Oracle9i Application Server include:

* Develop, debug, auto-generate, compile and deploy Java applications on Oracle9iApplication Server without leaving the JBuilder 6 development environment.
* Seamlessly transition Java applications from developer sandbox, staging area and deployment area.
* Support from JBuilder 6 for dynamic hot deployment without restarting or shutting down Oracle9iAS.
* Support from JBuilder 6 for automatic CMP (Container Managed Persistence) and BMP (Bean Managed Persistence) on Oracle9iAS.

"Unlike BEA and IBM, we are providing a free development license of Oracle9iAS with JBuilder 6, allowing JBuilder 6 customers to seamlessly develop, stage, test and deploy on Oracle9i Application Server," said Chuck Rozwat, executive vice president, Database Server Technology, at Oracle Corporation. "Our close integration with a leading development environment such as JBuilder 6 expands Oracle's breadth of functionality and further demonstrates its market value."

Availability
The Oracle9iAS integration plug-in for JBuilder 6, includes a free development license for Oracle9iAS, and is shipping free of charge on the JBuilder 6 Companion Tools CD. The integration plug-in can also be downloaded from Oracle Technology Network (http://otn.oracle.com/) and from Code Central on Borland's Community site (http://community.borland.com/).
