Oracle Asia Pacific, a division of Oracle Corporation, the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced that it continued to build momentum in 2002 as businesses across the region choose Oracle software and services to lower information technology (IT) costs and achieve new levels of efficiency. Increasingly, businesses are upgrading to the Oracle E-Business Suite 11i, Oracle9i Database and Oracle9i Application Server to realize the benefits associated with a single data model that stores information across a full range of integrated applications. Across Asia Pacific, Oracle has also been recognised in 2002 for its technological innovation and market leadership by leading industry, IT and business publication readers, customers and associations.
Oracle E-Business Suite
The Oracle E-Business Suite enjoyed accelerated adoption in 2002 as nearly 25 percent of Oracle's customers worldwide that have gone "live" on the applications, are based in Asia Pacific. They include leading companies such as China Banknote Printing & Minting Corporation (China), Shanghai Hitachi (China), Dragonair (Hong Kong), Jebsen & Co. (Hong Kong), LG.Philips LCD (Korea), Posco (Korea), Westpac Banking Corporation (Australia), Sellagence (New Zealand) Tube Investment (India) and Win Semiconductors (Taiwan). The Oracle E-Business Suite enables companies to efficiently manage business processes, such as customer management, manufacturing, marketing, order management and supply chain management, from one global system. Primary reasons customers select the Oracle E-Business Suite include Oracle's single architecture and open data model, which allow applications to be deployed as individual modules, business flows or an entire integrated suite.
Customers in Asia Pacific who purchased Oracle's applications during the most recent quarter FY03Q2 (ended 30 November 2002) included Smart Communications (Philippines), Indian Hotels Corporation (India), Pan-United Corporation (Singapore) and Juken Technology (Singapore).
Oracle9i Database and Oracle9i Application Server
Customers in Asia Pacific who purchased Oracle9i Database and/or Oracle9i Application Server during FY03Q2 included Tata Engineering (India), Big C Supercenter Public Co (Thailand) and Ministry of Finance - Direktorat Jenderal Pajak (Indonesia).
Uptake of the Oracle9i Application Server in Asia Pacific was particularly strong in 2002, as the region's Oracle9i Application Server customer base more than doubled over the past 12 months. Leading customers, including Citibank Singapore, Manulife (Hong Kong), KTF (Korea), David Jones (Australia), Shanghai General Electronics (China), Yonsei University (Korea), TransAsia Telecom (Taiwan), China Earthquake Bureau Stratum Research Unit, Loyalty New Zealand and Bank of the Philippine Islands, continue to benefit from Oracle's capacity to help them develop and deploy dynamic Web sites and transactional business applications based on web services.
Oracle9i Database with Real Applications Clusters also saw good take-up from customers such as Hutchison-Priceline (Hong Kong), Gas Authority of India (India) and Korean Investment Trust Management and Securities (Korea).
Oracle's information management software products include the world's market leading database - Oracle9i Database - and Oracle9i Application Server. Because e-business Web sites, transactional and decision support applications require both a database and an application server, Oracle9i Database and Oracle9i Application Server are an ideal choice for companies that want the performance and cost saving benefits of a complete and integrated infrastructure. Oracle9i Database and Oracle9i Application Server enable companies around the world to run mission-critical business applications with a highly reliable, available, scalable and secure foundation. Analyst firm META Group recently recognized Oracle9i Database as the leader in the relational database market, and a recent eWeek review praised Oracle9i Application Server for its valuable caching, data integration and data analysis tools.
Industry Recognition and Awards in 2002
In 2002, Oracle's reputation as market leader in technology and innovation in Asia Pacific was boosted by top honours and awards which it received, based on findings and feedback from regional user surveys and industry polls conducted by various industry, IT and business publications and associations, such as Asia Computer Weekly, Computerworld and Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry (refer to Appendix 1). Given the extensive reach of these independent organisations, the awards reflect the growing recognition among users, influencers and decision-makers that Oracle software and services cater to the demands of Asian businesses. They also represent the satisfaction of Oracle's Asia Pacific customers and partners who rely on Oracle's products for their businesses.
Derek Williams, executive vice president for Oracle Asia Pacific, said, "We are proud to have achieved a good business year in 2002 despite the tough economic climate. Both Oracle9i platform and the Oracle E-Business Suite have enjoyed strong adoption by world-class clients in Asia and the industry awards reinforce the recognition of the quality and value proposition behind Oracle's integrated enterprise software products and services. We have also continued to gain ground in the mid-market segment, which today makes up about 50 percent of our customer base in Asia."
These companies include Shunde Special Transformer Works (China), Kinsus Interconnect Tech (Taiwan), Eastgate Technology (Singapore), Hotai Motor Company (Taiwan), King Yuan Electronics (Taiwan), Seafresh Industry Public Co (Thailand) and Sunny Queen (Australia).
"In addition to continued product enhancements and innovation through new products such as Oracle Collaboration Suite and Oracle Technology Outsourcing, Oracle's business focus in Asia Pacific for 2003 will be on meeting the diverse needs of our customers through rapid implementations and complete software solutions that integrate global best practices. Our commitment is to help companies, from small-and-medium-sized businesses to large multinational corporations and also key industries such as telecommunications, financial services, government, and manufacturing and distribution, to make significant improvements in operational efficiencies and overall competitiveness," added Williams.
