Oracle has introduced a number of initiatives to help ISVs build and deploy applications on the Linux platform. In 2003, Oracle launched the Linux Business Development Initiative to provide ISVs with technical advice, migration best practices, training and marketing assistance to speed time to market for their Linux-based applications. The initiative now boasts more than 1,500 members.

Oracle's longstanding commitment to Linux has made it the leading enabler of database software on Linux. According to Gartner's recently released relational database management system (RDBMS) market share results for 2004, Linux is the fastest growing platform with 118 percent growth and Oracle is the top database on Linux with 81 percent market share. Additionally, almost 20 to 30 percent of Oracle Real Application Cluster deployments are estimated to be on the Linux platform.

Oracle's Linux Heritage
Since introducing the first database to run on Linux in 1998, Oracle has been committed to furthering Linux adoption across the enterprise. Support has been a hallmark of the Oracle-Linux organization since June 2002 when Oracle began providing code-level support for the entire software platform, including the operating system. With more than 9,000 Oracle developers using Linux infrastructure to develop products, Oracle continues to provide the technology leadership to enable the Linux platform for enterprise applications and grid solutions. Oracle also has a Linux Kernel Group dedicated to working with Linux vendors to provide fixes and develop new functionality to benefit the Linux community. Most recently, the company launched a dedicated Linux Test Lab to help ensure the quality, stability and supportability of the operating system.
