InnerWireless Lowers Operation Costs by 30 Percent with OracleÒ Mobile Supply Chain Applications
InnerWireless Empowers Warehouse Operations with Oracle Mobile Solution; Speeds Inventory Movement across Supply Chain
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.   07-DEC-2005 09:47 AM    InnerWireless, a leading provider of in-building wireless solutions for hospitals, large commercial buildings and government agencies, has deployed Oracle( Mobile Supply Chain Applications (MSCA) and lowered its operating costs by 30 percent. InnerWireless chose Oracle MSCA to enable users to complete distribution, manufacturing and quality transactions from anywhere inside or outside the plant using a variety of radio frequency devices, PDAs, scanners and other mobile devices. The Oracle software has dramatically increased the efficiency of day-to-day warehouse transactions and information movement.

"We wanted a mobile solution to augment and support our existing supply chain applications during a period of ongoing significant growth," said Tim Kinnear, InnerWireless CFO. "Integration with our current Oracle modules - purchase receiving, inventory tracking, discrete manufacturing, and quality and order management - was essential. It would have taken extra money, effort, knowledge and resources to design and develop a homegrown application or one from another vendor in the market that had all of the integration points. But with Oracle MSCA these capabilities exist by default. From day one, we were able to process, manage and share information across our supply chain in ways that have helped to decrease our total cost of ownership."

Oracle developed its wireless applications to meet the most demanding supply chain management metrics. Transactions can be carried out using various wireless devices at the point of use, thus offering real-time transaction processing, improving data accuracy and increasing mobility and convenience. To sustain its competitive edge and market leadership, InnerWireless turned to Oracle MSCA to help increase the velocity of inventory moving throughout the supply chain and gain accurate, real-time data to make more informed business decisions.

InnerWireless labeled both aisle locations and inventory items with appropriate bar codes to enable serial control through product assembly, shipping and delivery. Oracle MSCA helps warehouse operations by tracing and tracking incoming, on-hand and outgoing inventory movement. With the Oracle solution, the warehouse team has an easy-to-use scanning mechanism, which diminishes data entry errors and immediately transfers that information into the supply chain system.

"We wanted component and sub-assembly pick and consumption to be very accurate and precise," said Nari Kikkeri, InnerWireless Director of Strategic Planning. "Our warehouse process requires first-in-first-out consumption, which means the oldest materials need to be consumed first based on revision order and receipt date. Oracle MSCA streamlined a very cumbersome and complex business process."

Oracle MSCA enables key transactions across InnerWireless' supply chain, including receiving, quality assurance inspections, directed put away, on-hand inventory inquiries, cycle counting, physical counting, directed picking, shipment confirmation and work in process movements.
