Small-to-Midsize Businesses Replace Microsoft with Oracle® Applications, Continue to Select Oracle over SAP and Microsoft
Across Industries, Midsize Customers Address Big Business Needs with Oracle
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.   15-DEC-2005 02:00 PM    Across industries and geographies in North America, new small-to-midsize companies have replaced Microsoft with Oracle(r) Applications and continue to select Oracle after evaluating SAP, Microsoft and other industry products, Oracle today announced.

Midsize organizations invest for the future with the Oracle E-Business Suite, which helps them to address big business needs by improving business insight, standardizing business processes, and giving managers the flexibility to adapt to change. More than 20 new Oracle small-to-midsize customers such as Albany Molecular Research Inc., Merichem Company, Red Dot Corp. and USA Technologies find competitive value in Oracle applications and continue to drive momentum.

Replacing Legacy Microsoft with Oracle
Albany Molecular Research, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMRI) is a leading chemistry-based drug discovery, development and manufacturing company, focusing on applications for new small molecule prescription drugs. It provides high-quality chemistry services for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and conducts proprietary research and development. After evaluating Microsoft Axapta, SAP and Ross Systems, the company is replacing its legacy Microsoft Solomon system and AS/400 system with Oracle E-Business Suite.

"As a global leader in biotech we are constantly looking to expand into new markets, most recently opening facilities in Singapore and India," said Albany Molecular Research Director of IT, Peter Russo. "We wanted a software partner that had a deep understanding of and commitment to the life sciences industry and one with a product to integrate our multiple business processes. We looked at Microsoft, SAP, Oracle and other point-products and found that Oracle knew the industry better than its competitors, and the Oracle E-Business Suite was the most comprehensive solution for our business needs, be it Sarbanes Oxley compliance, purchasing, employee self service, supply chain planning and scheduling or managing corporate assets worldwide."

Red Dot Corp. is a worldwide leader in the design and production of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and replacement parts for commercial trucks, buses, and vehicles used in construction, mining, agriculture, fire and rescue, and military service. A 500-person company, Red Dot recently purchased Oracle E-Business Suite after taking a serious look at Microsoft's Navision software and SAP.

"Red Dot went into the evaluation process with Microsoft at the top of our list. It was perceived that Oracle's solution was more robust, but would be outside the project's budget," said Information Technology Manager at Red Dot Corp, John-Mark Tucker. "As it turned out, the Oracle E-Business Suite's feature set matched our distribution and manufacturing requirements much closer than Microsoft's, and the overall cost was pleasantly surprising. We are in the middle of the first of two implementation phases, with an extremely aggressive timeline, and fully expect to make our goal go-live date."
