M. A. Mortenson Company, one of the largest construction companies in the United States, has selected Oracle(r) E-Business Suite as the foundation for its enterprise resource planning (ERP) infrastructure. Mortenson envisions that its decision to standardize on Oracle will streamline business processes, further improve its customer service capabilities, and serve as a solid foundation for implementing lean enterprise
Recently, Mortenson conducted an extensive evaluation of its business with an eye toward improving efficiency, quality and productivity. As a result of this effort, Mortenson selected Oracle E-Business Suite in order to drive new efficiencies and improve visibility into its financial, human resources, project management and asset equipment management functions. Oracle E-Business Suite will enable Mortenson to gain a centralized, single view of data and create a more accurate real time picture of its business operations.
"Due to strength of its current product set, ongoing investments in additional functionality - such as enhancements to its project management modules - and strong commitment to the engineering and construction industry, we believe that Oracle is best positioned to meet the current and future needs of our business," said Julius Chepey, vice president and chief information officer for Mortenson. "These considerations - combined with Oracle's integrated approach to enterprise applications and data that ensures a single source of the truth - drove our partner selection process. In order to profitably grow our business both now and well into the future, we are building an information infrastructure with Oracle that will allow us to make timely and fact-based decisions."
Mortenson has also joined Oracle's Engineering & Construction Customer Advisory Board and is providing end-user perspective on industry-specific functionality and requirements. Mortenson brings significant expertise in the area of subcontractor management to the group.
Phased Rollout
Mortenson plans a phased rollout of Oracle E-Business Suite modules, focusing first on its financial and project management with the deployment of Oracle Financials and Oracle Projects. Subsequent phases will focus on implementing modules for employee human resources self-service, Internet-based training, business intelligence, and enterprise planning and budgeting.
Oracle Consulting has been engaged as the implementation partner, working in tandem with Mortenson to develop and execute the deployment strategy. Oracle Consulting will provide project planning and management services, technical consulting, and installation services as well as training and support.
"As a progressive contracting organization, Mortenson sees the potential of creating a single repository for critical business information to drive enterprise-wide visibility of detailed operational and financial data," said James Upton, senior industry director of Engineering and Construction, Oracle Corp. "This approach enables engineering and construction firms to differentiate themselves from their competition by helping to better identify and mitigate risk, improve project performance, and enhance customer service."
