Following through on its commitment to support and help upgrade customers running JD Edwards products, Oracle today announced that Spirent Communications is one of the first customers to go live on the newest release of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.
Spirent Communications, a global test and measurement company, relied on Oracle Support(r) and Deloitte Consulting LLP through its systems upgrade to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Version 8.11 on Linux. The move to this new JD Edwards EnterpriseOne release will help Spirent improve collaboration between divisions and enable the company to stay closely connected to customers.
Spirent's upgrade from JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Xe to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Version 8.11 was underway when Oracle acquired PeopleSoft in early 2005. During the acquisition, Oracle Support remained focused on Spirent's upgrade and contributed to the five-month upgrade project.
"Our decision to upgrade to the latest version of JD Edwards was fueled by Oracle's assurance that they would support these products even longer than PeopleSoft had originally agreed to," said Phil Walton, group director of information technology at Spirent Communications. "Oracle has followed through on its commitment to deliver great service and support throughout the entire upgrade process and Deloitte Consulting has truly been a reliable and knowledgeable partner for us. There is no doubt that we made the right decision to continue with our JD Edwards upgrade."
Spirent also relied on its own Global Services to ensure its own global network infrastructure could support the upgrade.
"Go-live success was not only dependent on the stability and support of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application but also on the quality of our own global IT infrastructure," said Walton. "Based on the results of our network readiness assessment professional services, we were able to fine-tune the network to ensure that we met our service levels for a global application, and it gave us the confidence that we would avoid any business disruption."
Spirent migrated its systems onto a Linux environment. Since completing the implementation, Spirent has found that the performance and scalability of its Linux-based infrastructure and JD Edwards middleware solution has exceeded all of the company's expectations. Spirent is now equipped to handle real-time data exchange between the JD Edwards applications and its third-party customer relationship management (CRM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) products.
Based on this success of the upgrade, Spirent is now accelerating its global deployment of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne solution.
