Oracle Europe, Middle East & Africa Exceeds USD 4 Billion in Revenues for the Fiscal Year 2005
Biggest ever quarter, biggest ever fiscal year as the region shows 17% revenue increase over the same periods last year respectively
Geneva, Switzerland   29-JUN-2005 06:40 AM    Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL) today reported revenues of $4,288 million in US GAAP basis for the fiscal year 2005 (ended 31 May 2005) for the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region, a 17% growth compared to fiscal year 2004. Operations in the region accounted for 36% of worldwide FY05 revenues, and new licence revenues grew 10% compared with the previous year.

For the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2005, revenues were also up 17% on the fourth quarter 2004 as the region saw increased demand from a broad span of industry sectors, in particular public services, financial services and telecommunications. Many world-class brands such as Agfa, BASF, Bosch, BT, Gianni Versace SpA, Giorgio Armani SpA, Gulf Air, HSBC Holdings Plc, KLM, Morgan Stanley, O2, T-Mobile and Whirlpool have selected Oracle® to consolidate, standardise and automate their IT systems to help them gain cost efficiencies, better information, high availability and performance, and better customer service.

Within the public sector, public employees in defence, police, hospitals, government ministries, justice departments, ports, customs, education and local councils across the EMEA region use Oracle products and services to deliver enhanced citizen services, and to make cost-effective use of public funds.

Sergio Giacoletto, Executive Vice President, Oracle Europe, Middle East and Africa commented, "Our continued performance in the key vertical markets of public services, financial services, telecommunications and healthcare, as well as increased success in engineering & construction, retail and mid-market manufacturing is the result of our focus to deliver business value." He continued, "From geographical information systems for utilities, eHealth systems for increased quality of healthcare for Europe's citizens, radio frequency identification systems for logistics, fraud prevention systems for banks and telecommunications, automated distribution systems, to real-time business intelligence systems, Oracle is at the heart of a diverse set of modern applications that are transforming the way organisations operate in the 21st Century."

Highlights of Fiscal 2005

  • Expansion in the region. Oracle has expanded its operations in the EMEA region in Fiscal 2005 and now has employees in 54 countries. In June 2004, Oracle set up SensorWorld, a demonstration centre for the uses of RFID technology, at its Reading UK offices. In November 2004, Oracle opened a Support Contract Renewal Centre in Romania. In May 2005, Oracle set up a Public Sector Competency Center for Central and Eastern European Region, based in Hungary. Also in May 2005, Oracle opened support offices in Jordan, together with an expertise centre to provide consulting services to customers across Europe with focus on the telecommunications market and wireless applications. Oracle is making significant investments for growth in Africa and the Middle East. Oracle has over 75,000 technology customers and over 8,000 applications customers in EMEA.
  • Strategic acquisitions to support customers. In January 2005, Oracle completed the acquisition of PeopleSoft, Inc., and confirmed its long-term commitment to the continued and consistent support of PeopleSoft and JD Edwards products, together with product development and product support roadmaps. In March 2005, Oracle acquired Oblix, Inc., a leading developer of identity management software that allows web access control including Single Sign On (SSO), identity administration and user provisioning. In April 2005, Oracle acquired Retek Inc., a leading provider of solutions to the retail industry.
  • Product innovation - Oracle unveiled several new products and product enhancements during fiscal year 2005, including Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g, Oracle Database 10g Release 2, Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2, Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle E-Business Suite 11i.10, Oracle CRM 11i.10, Oracle Procurement Contracts, Oracle Services Procurement, Oracle Supplier Network, Oracle Product Information Management Data Hub, PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management 8.9 and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.
  • Oracle Grows Partner Network in EMEA. Oracle grew its partner network in the region in fiscal year 2005 by 13% to over 9,000 partners. The Oracle Partner Competency Centre delivered 35,000 training days

"The acquisitions of PeopleSoft, Oblix and Retek, mean that we move forward into fiscal year 2006 with an even more comprehensive set of products and services to help customers in the region across multiple industries become more efficient and better-informed to compete globally," Sergio Giacoletto commented. "Our compelling set of world-class products is unmatched by our competitors."

Cost savings have been a key priority in customers selecting Oracle over other vendors. Hochtief, the international construction services provider, headquartered in Germany, has chosen the Oracle E-Business Suite as the basis for its new enterprise resource planning system. Among the reasons behind the decision was the ease and affordability of integrating the information technology systems of Hochtief's affiliate companies into the Group's structure, and the opportunity for significant savings in ongoing operating and maintenance costs within the IT infrastructure.

Banque Misr selected Oracle to enhance customer service and deliver strategic business intelligence. "To improve our market position, we devised a two-point strategy of measuring and analyzing our performance in a number of key areas while simultaneously boosting customer service interaction," said Mohamedd Kafafi, Vice President, Banque Misr. "In addition to increased performance analysis and management, the Oracle solution enables Banque Misr to see how our actions in the field - across all 450 branches - are aligned with the bank's management strategy. We're complementing this internal reporting tool with upgrades to customer-facing processes such as our call centre, marketing and credit card collections functions to ensure that customers receive a uniformly superior service experience."

Deutsche Post is using Oracle's self-managing database, Oracle Database 10g, to improve customer service. Rob Leaman, manager for the database department in the Business Information Management Systems Division at Deutsche Post IT Solutions GmbH (DPITS) and his team have 400 projects under way, as they develop applications ranging from sorting mail and bar coding to monitoring movements of container cargo and airfreight. "Customer service is among the top criteria upon which we are evaluated," said Leaman. "With Oracle Database 10g, we can let the database manage itself and focus on issues that directly impact our business such as improving customer service. Because the new software automatically captures workload information and learns about how it's being used, it can help troubleshoot by diagnosing problems ahead of time, as well as solve problems faster."
