Oracle's Think.com and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) today announced that Think.com has been awarded ISTE's National Education Technology Standards (NETS) Seal of Alignment. By awarding the seal, ISTE recognizes that Think.com supports the implementation of national technology standards for students and teachers in specific, carefully reviewed and documented ways.
Oracle worked closely with ISTE to co-develop nine new lessons that clearly provide teachers with instructional models for using Think.com's free online environment to meet both technology and subject-area curricular standards. As a result, educators can more easily use Think.com in the classroom everyday to meet technology standards.
"Think.com is proud to receive this Seal of Alignment and pleased with the assurance it provides to our member schools and teachers," said Jim Ballard, vice president of the Oracle Education Foundation programs. "Our work with ISTE has allowed us to create new lessons designed to assist teachers on how to use Think.com to meet curricular and technology standards."
Aligning to Standards
The National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) are used by more than 80 percent of the states. Alignment to NETS allows educators to more clearly understand how a given resource might be used to improve teaching and learning through the appropriate use of technology.
"ISTE is pleased to award its official seal and statement of NETS alignment to Think.com," said Don Knezek, PhD, CEO of ISTE. "Think.com is an excellent example of for-profit companies donating their time and resources to help with the technological education of students. Oracle should be commended for their innovative use of technology to assist students, teachers and schools around the world, helping prepare students and teachers to meet the technology needs of today's society.
Showcasing Instructional Models At NECC
Think.com will be showcasing the new lessons this week at the National Education Computing Conference in Philadelphia, PA. The nine lessons provide a broad example of instructional usage from Kindergarten through eighth grade, and across the Language Arts, Social Science, and Science curriculum. Each of the lessons follows a Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach, utilizing the assignment of interdisciplinary, student-centered projects that integrate real world issues and challenges. The lessons are available for educators at www.think.com/iste.
