Auckland International Airport Upgrades Oracle’s JD Edwards Applications To Support Increased Traffic and Passenger Demands
New Zealand’s Main Transportation Gateway Benefits From Scalable, Reliable ERP Functionality
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.,   03-AUG-2006 08:09 PM    As part of an initiative to integrate and update its information management systems, Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) has upgraded to Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.11. With approximately 24 million passengers forecast to pass through AIAL by 2025, it was essential that the airport's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system be robust and scaleable to meet the increased passenger demands.

"The upgrade to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.11 allows us to rationalize our business applications and information technology (IT) infrastructure and, in time, to take advantage of the latest functionality," said Auckland International Airport Limited Head of IT and Telecommunications Tony Wickstead. "The airport is changing every day and we need to ensure it is equipped to meet current and future requirements."

Before embarking on this project, the company considered whether continuing with JD Edwards was the best choice for the organization.

"AIAL has been using the JD Edwards application since July 2000 and we felt that the product has served us well. However, we were looking for reassurance from Oracle that they were firmly committed to the future support and development of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. We are satisfied with the direction for Oracle( Fusion Applications and the company's support for existing JD Edwards customers, and saw no reason to switch providers," Wickstead said.

AIAL also found that the Web-based features of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.11 enabled upgrades and ongoing maintenance to be more efficient and dynamic. Additionally, AIAL found that problem solving has become less time-consuming, as information can now be exported directly from the system to desktop applications such as Excel. As a result, the airport no longer relies on its IT staff to extract data from the system.

The upgrade has also simplified the process for batch processing, making it more user-friendly and efficient. AIAL's previous system took three to four hours to complete a batch report whereas with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.11, the airport is able to complete the task in a matter of minutes. This enables staff to focus on more strategic, high-level projects.

The AIAL upgrade was completed in January 2006 and included a new hardware installation as well as an upgraded server operating environment and the deployment of Oracle Database.

AIAL relies on a range of applications, all part of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 8.11 suite, including Financial Management modules for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Fixed Asset Accounting and the Project Management module for Project Costing.
