Oracle today announced systems management support for EMC network attached storage systems, delivering significant value in environments relying on the combination of EMC and Oracle technology. Generally available today is a new Plug-In that integrates monitoring, service level management, configuration analysis and diagnostic capabilities for EMC Celerra systems directly into Oracle(r) Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control (Oracle Grid Control).
Joint customers can use Oracle Grid Control to reduce the cost and complexity of monitoring applications, services and systems relying on EMC Celerra servers and Oracle software products. With the addition of valuable performance information for EMC Celerra systems, Oracle Grid Control gives system administrators a broader reach and greater ability to meet their quality of service objectives. Oracle Grid Control's enhanced service modeling, complete service topology and comprehensive root cause analysis functionality now includes EMC Celerra systems enabling administrators to detect and resolve problems quickly using a single, integrated management solution.
"Customers are asking us to deliver a solution to monitor and manage the key IT systems that surround Oracle in their application environment," said Jay Rossiter, vice president of System Management Products, Oracle. "Tens of thousands of joint customers rely on the combination of EMC storage and the Oracle Database to power their data centers. Today, we're offering administrators a single tool for achieving superior, end-to-end management of environments where EMC Celerra and Oracle systems work together."
"The collaborative efforts between EMC and Oracle enable our customers to easily administer and monitor critical applications and services, decreasing the cost and reducing the complexity with this single, integrated console," said Chuck Hollis, EMC Vice President of Alliances. "For more than a decade, our joint customers have reaped tremendous benefits from the longstanding partnership between EMC and Oracle."
Plug-In for EMC Celerra Delivers Broad Range of Capabilities
Administrators managing environments that include EMC Celerra systems and Oracle products can now use Oracle Grid Control to:
* Monitor key performance metrics, including status, Data Mover statistics, NFS statistics, size and usage for file systems, volumes, and pools;
* Analyze performance through various views, facilitating strategic tasks such as trend analysis, capacity planning and reporting;
* Collect and automatically track configuration information, including control station details, Data Mover, disk groups, and disk devices configuration; and,
* Access pre-built reports on performance statistics, file systems, checkpoints, storage pools, volumes, storage system summary, NFS exports, NFS statistics, and network configuration information.
The new Plug-In takes advantage of Oracle Grid Control's application and service level management, configuration management, grid computing automation, and reporting capabilities to help administrators streamline processes, automate manual tasks and better align IT resources with business objectives. Additionally, the Plug-In automatically benefits from Oracle Grid Control's broad set of monitoring and service level management features, including alerts, lights-out monitoring, automatic performance data collection and trending, end-to-end transaction monitoring, blackout windows, and templates. Together these rich features provide complete system-service monitoring and significantly improve service delivery.
Longstanding Partnership, Technical Collaboration
Working collaboratively since 1995, Oracle and EMC have more than 40,000 joint customers, providing solutions to 90 of the Fortune 100 businesses. Oracle is a charter member of the EMC Developers Program (EDP) and EMC is an Oracle Certified Advantage Partner. Both companies work together to bring tightly integrated offerings to market for their joint customers. EMC and Oracle maintain a Joint Service Center (JSC) staffed by service engineers from both companies to facilitate faster problem resolution for their shared customers and serve as a dedicated lab to duplicate customer environments for solution development, testing and benchmarks. Both companies utilize each other's technologies in their own businesses.
Partner Offering Enables Broader Systems Management
