Oracle Named Worldwide Market Share Leader in Business Analytics Software and Data Warehousing Tools by Market Research Firm
Oracle Recognized as Business Analytics Software Market Share Leader for Third Consecutive Year
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.   07-NOV-2006 04:00 PM    Oracle today announced that it has been named the leading business analytics software and data warehousing tools vendor based on 2005 software revenues by analyst firm IDC. Oracle's business analytics or Business Intelligence (BI) solutions encompass a comprehensive, integrated set of leading products including packaged BI applications, BI platform infrastructure software, and data warehousing.

IDC defines the business analytics software market as comprising tools and applications for tracking, storing, analyzing, modeling, and presenting data in support of automating decision-making and reporting processes. In its report, "Worldwide Business Analytics Software 2006-2010 Forecast and 2005 Vendor Shares," IDC determined that Oracle was the largest business analytics vendor with 13.1 percent market share and revenues of nearly $2.2 billion for 2005. Overall, IDC estimates that the business analytics market grew by 11 percent in 2005 and to $16.6 billion in software revenue.

In addition to market share leadership in business analytics, Oracle is the leader in the data warehousing tools market with 19.3 percent market share and nearly $1.9 billion in software revenue for 2005 according to IDC's report, "Worldwide Data Warehousing Tools 2005 Vendor Shares." The firm classifies the data warehousing tools software market as comprising Data Warehouse Generation tools, Data Warehouse Management tools, and Data Warehouse Access tools. IDC determined that Oracle was the leading vendor in the Data Warehouse Management category with a 39.8 percent market share and almost $1.6 billion in revenues for 2005. Its nearest competitor in the Data Warehouse Management tools market trailed with 22.7 percent market share and approximately $903 million in revenues.

"Once again, Oracle was the market share leader in business analytics software," said Dan Vesset, Research Director, Analytics & Data Warehousing, IDC. "In 2005, Oracle showed good revenue growth across analytic applications, BI tools and data warehousing tools. Oracle's strength in those three key areas as well as tighter integration across their product lines positions them to reach a broader user base throughout all industries, geographic regions, and company size segments."
