CNH Global Selects Oracle(r) Transportation Management to Transform Worldwide Logistics Operations
The Need To Reduce Costs, Increase Visibility and On Demand Delivery Model Drives Leading Equipment Manufacturer to Invest in Oracle
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.,   16-OCT-2006 05:00 AM    In an effort to transform inbound and outbound logistics operations, Oracle today announced that CNH Global, N.V. (NYSE: CNH) invested in Oracle( Transportation Management. A world leader in the agricultural and construction equipment businesses and a majority-owned subsidiary of Fiat S.p.A. (FIA.MI; NYSE:FIA), CNH aims to increase visibility and reduce costs by streamlining global logistics with Oracle.

CNH manufactures a full line of farming and livestock equipment - from complex tractors to harvesting equipment. The company also produces heavy construction and light industrial equipment for contractors in industries such as road building, quarrying, demolition, excavation and commercial building. Each year, CNH ships over 300,000 pieces of whole goods globally and completes one million inbound shipments to support its 38 manufacturing plants.

Prior to investing in Oracle, CNH outsourced its transportation operations. The company realized it could achieve significant cost savings by bringing its transportation processes in-house. After evaluating numerous transportation management systems from best of breed and enterprise resource planning (ERP) vendors, CNH decided to invest in Oracle Transportation Management.

"We needed a proven system that would not only support our high volume business, but help us get control of our substantial transportation costs," said CNH Senior Vice President, Global Logistics and Supply Chain, Randy Baker. "Reliability was also critical to our decision. If our logistics operations aren't working, we don't have the parts for manufacturing or the ability to ensure our tractors, combines and excavators reach our customers on time."

Oracle Transportation Management will give CNH end-to-end, real-time visibility into logistics data that can be frequently updated. This will enable the company to better plan manufacturing cycles and give customers valuable insight into product delivery. CNH will also be equipped to act on unexpected supply chain events - such as shipment delays or short-shipped quantities - helping ensure that every shipment is delivered in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Built on a completely global framework, Oracle Transportation Management can provide CNH with item level global supply chain visibility and global fulfillment options.

"With Oracle Transportation Management, even our customers will have visibility into our logistics operations," said CNH CIO Kevin Glynn. "A farmer who buys a tractor will be able to know exactly when the machine left the factory and when it's going to arrive on the farm. This capability will make us more competitive."

The flexible integration capabilities of Oracle Transportation Management contributed to CNH's decision to invest in Oracle. CNH will be able to integrate Oracle into its back-end legacy systems, which will create a virtually seamless, automated environment and also give the company scalability for future growth. Another key factor that contributed to CNH's decision was Oracle On Demand. Relying on Oracle's software-as-a-service delivery model will free the company's IT staff from ongoing management of the system and will help contribute to a lower total cost of ownership.

Oracle Consulting will oversee the implementation for CNH. The initial deployment is underway and CNH plans to have all of its manufacturing plants in North America live on Oracle Transportation Management by early 2007.
