Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), the nation's largest provider of corrections management services to government agencies, reduced processing time for new inmates by 25 percent and decreased processing errors by 95 percent with an Oracle(r) Fusion Middleware-based Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
Specializing in the design, building and management of prisons and detention centers throughout the U.S., CCA built a flexible and efficient business process for booking and processing inmates that reduced data error and accelerated inmate entry time. Through its use of several components of Oracle Fusion Middleware, including Oracle Application Server 10g, Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10g and Oracle JDeveloper 10g, and Oracle Database 10g, CCA automated its core business processes and implemented real-time data integration across its systems. As a result of the two-month long integration project, CCA realized a 25 percent improved throughput in inmate intake processing with improved accuracy as a result of the interface. In the future, the company plans to use Oracle BPEL Process Manager as the basis for integrations with other facilities.
Oracle Partner Plays Key Role in Integration Transformation
CCA worked with BIAS Corporation, a Certified Partner in Oracle PartnerNetwork, to implement the SOA. Utilizing the open standards-based Oracle BPEL Process Manager, BIAS Corporation created a flexible, adaptable and extensible business process for booking and processing inmates that can be used throughout the country.
"Our use of Oracle Fusion Middleware has enabled us to significantly reduce the cost and complexity of our integration projects," said John Pfeiffer, vice president of Technology and CIO, CCA. "With the help of Oracle and BIAS Corporation, we successfully moved to an SOA-based system within two months and plan to expand our integration initiative to several more of our applications and prisons facilities during the next two years."
"Oracle's best-in-class middleware software made it possible to not only create an architecture that CCA can extend to all of its customers, but also allowed us to do so in only two months," said John Ezzell, Vice President, BIAS Corporation. "Our work with CCA provides an excellent illustration of how BIAS Corporation designs, develops and implements systems, based on Oracle software, that provide customers the technology advantage they need to compete in today's competitive markets."

CCA operates more than 60 correctional, detention and juvenile facilities with a capacity of nearly 72,000 beds throughout 19 states. The company contracts with federal, state and local authorities to manage the facilities - 40 of which are company owned. CCA also owns three facilities, managed by other companies and provides rehabilitation programs for inmates of its facilities.
In addition to Oracle Fusion Middleware, CCA has also been relying on Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne for almost six years to support a broad range of operations including human capital management, financial management, procurement, inventory, real estate and facilities.
