Shopzilla to Glean Greater Business Insight through Oracle(r) Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing
Shopzilla Upgrades to Oracle Database 10g and Standardizes on Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition for Enterprise-wide Dashboards
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.   29-OCT-2007 05:00 AM    To analyze greater amounts and types of data, extend dashboards companywide, and help augment its decision-making processes, Shopzilla has selected Oracle to power its new business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing systems.

Shopzilla, formerly BizRate.com, connects millions of shoppers with thousands of merchants, tracking the flow of traffic, purchases, product searches, among other key events transpiring through its shopping search site. Web site activity results in the company processing 40 gigabytes of information daily – information the company, its business units, and its merchants rely upon for insight and to make key decisions. Previously, Shopzilla delivered daily reports to its merchants and internal audiences relying on a homegrown reporting system in conjunction with a 2.5 terabyte Oracle data warehouse.

With a growing business, new Web site features resulting in more data for analysis, and changing customer needs, Shopzilla plans to deploy a new data warehouse comprised of Oracle Database(r) 10g and Oracle Real Application Clusters running on six Dell PowerEdge 2950 servers with two Intel Core Duo processors on Linux.

"Shopzilla's business managers rely on real-time web-traffic data to understand the general health of our business. The enterprise data warehouse satisfies their need for information about both short and long term trends and helps them make key decisions on a daily basis," said Mark Mathews, Senior Director, Business Intelligence, Shopzilla. "As a rapidly growing company, we're at a point where we need a data warehouse that incorporates most of our enterprise's data which helps us to expand the scope of information that we deliver to our users. Oracle Real Application Clusters allows us to scale at the lowest cost."

Shopzilla Standardizes on Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE for Pervasive BI
Following a thorough five-week pilot phase, Shopzilla chose Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE) as its platform for alerts, dashboards, and self-service reporting capabilities throughout the enterprise. The company tested Oracle Business Intelligence Answers, Oracle Business Intelligence Dashboards, and Oracle Business Intelligence Delivers modules of Oracle Business Intelligence Suite EE on top of its clustered Oracle Database with great success. In April 2007, Shopzilla deployed Oracle's BI product to minimize the need for homegrown dashboards, implement a standard, companywide system for real-time alerting, and enable the easy rollout of self-service reporting for internal audiences.

"Oracle Business Intelligence Suite is a perfect fit for our company," added Mathews. "After evaluating several well-known BI tools, we found the Oracle BI product to be the most powerful yet simple and easy to use. Our executives were excited when they saw it's capabilities, and we think it's going be a huge success here at Shopzilla."
