Former White House Press Secretary Joins Oracle Corp.
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.   27-NOV-2000 06:00 AM    Today, Joe Lockhart, former White House press secretary, joined Oracle Corporation. Lockhart will be a member of the senior management team reporting directly to Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and CEO. Lockhart will initially focus on refining and communicating Oracle's business strategy.

"Joe brings perspective and experience not commonly found in Silicon Valley companies," said Ellison. "In the last few years we have transformed Oracle Corporation into the leader in e-business. Joe will help us clearly and broadly communicate the benefits of e-business and e-government."

"This is an incredible opportunity for me to work with one of the most exciting companies in the world, and with one of the most visionary business leaders of our time," said Lockhart. "Oracle is laying the foundation for the way business will be done in the future, but the impact of what this company has to offer is still not widely understood. I look forward to playing a role in helping Oracle to become a household name."

Joseph Lockhart was formerly Assistant to the President and Press Secretary at the White House. Before joining the White House in 1997 he was National Press Secretary for the Clinton/Gore 1996 re-election campaign. He was previously a senior vice president of Robinson Lerer Sawyer Miller, where he brought an international media and U.S. political background to the management of sensitive communications issues.

Lockhart's political experience spans several U.S. presidential campaigns. He was the Deputy Press Secretary for the Dukakis/Bentsen 1988 presidential campaign, traveling with the nominee. In 1984, he was Assistant Press Secretary for the Mondale/Ferraro campaign, acting as primary liaison to the broadcast media, supervising advance staff, scheduling press-related operations, and providing logistical support for the traveling press. During the 1980 Carter/Mondale campaign he was a Regional Press Coordinator, managing communications for senior White House and campaign staff in 11 northeastern states.

His award-winning journalism activities include key positions at SKY Television News of London, Cable News Network (CNN), and ABC Network News. Lockhart will remain in Washington DC, where he lives with his wife and daughter, but will spend one to two weeks a month in Silicon Valley.
