Oracle Drives Growth of Enterprise Database on Linux by 67% in 2006

(June 18, 2007), Gartner has found that Linux is once again the fastest growing operating system in the Relational Database Management System (RDBMS)
market with a 67 percent leap in overall market share. "Propelled by the continued migration of databases to Linux, Oracle extended its lead over
IBM in the global market for relational databases last year," reports Computerworld.
- Oracle's market share on Linux was 82.6 percent in 2006, up from 80.6 percent in 2005
- Oracle on Linux grew 72 percent (more than 5 percent better than average market growth)
- Oracle RDBMS revenues on Linux are US$1.9425 billion, up from $1 billion in 2005
"Oracle is by far the database of choice for Linux platforms. Clustering database applications on low cost Linux servers delivers the
performance, scalability, and reliability today's businesses are looking for," says Willie Hardie, Vice President, Database Product Marketing
at Oracle.
