Dear JD Edwards World Customer,
"Reassuring on direction and intent."
The above was a comment from Carol Liebman, of Tanimura and Antle, after she attended a recent briefing for JD Edwards World and IBM iSeries customers that I hosted. I hope you will feel the same way as you learn more about the future direction of the JD Edwards World product.
It has been an interesting time for all of us, with the Oracle acquisition
of PeopleSoft. Many things have changed, but many things have also stayed
the same. Among those things that have changed is my title: I am very pleased
to assume the role of general manager of the JD Edwards World product organization,
a group with which I have been affiliated for many years. We're also changing
the name of the product—we're bringing back the JD Edwards name when referring
to our product line. I consider this a great example of Oracle's continued
commitment to the continuity of JD Edwards World. So what does being an
Oracle customer mean to you? Being part of a larger, combined company means
that we have many more resources available to serve you, including superior
customer support, product excellence, technology innovation, and market
leadership. How are we going to deliver those benefits to you? Let me take
a moment to share with you some of the ways that all of us at Oracle are
working to make sure you receive the maximum immediate and long-term value
from your relationship with Oracle. Hopefully, you'll feel as excited as
we do about the benefits of this merger as you assess your maintenance,
purchasing, and upgrade plans going forward.
Immediate Value
One of Oracle's most important goals is to ensure that you, our existing customer base, are satisfied. As a testament to this commitment, we have retained more than 95 percent of World's development and support staffs—the same people you have come to know and depend on throughout your tenure as a World customer. Everyone in the World organization—from development to support to product strategy—is focused on making you, our customers, happy and successful with World.
To ensure that continuity, much of the management team also remains intact: Carol Mackenzie will take my former post as director of World Solutions Strategy, and Treasure Diehl—in her 22nd year of working with the World product—remains at the helm of Product Development. Brad Nolan, a 10-year World veteran of the AEC and manufacturing teams who was critical in the international support effort, is leading your World Support team.
My management team will continue to reach out to you through the World Product Users' Group and other channels to obtain input about your World investment. I encourage you to visit oracle.com/peoplesoft and Customer Connection World pages online for updated information, including a video message from me. We will continue to post Web updates, road maps, and other material, and I also encourage you to subscribe to Plugged In for biweekly updates.
Products and Support
With strong support and development staffs, we can provide high-quality support to you as a JD Edwards World and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne customer through at least 2013. We have also extended support for EnterpriseOne customers running on version Xe and 8.0 through February 2007.
In terms of products, we are 100 percent committed to delivering and supporting ongoing World releases. We plan to have a new cumulative update—also known as a service pack—of World in 2005, and I will be showing the extended product road map at the upcoming Quest conference. Our road map now shows a new release of World coming in 2006, based on feedback from you.
We continue to add not only regulatory changes but also enhancements to the product. Our strong relationship with the IBM iSeries team continues, and our strategists and developers are engaged in optimizing future releases of the iSeries operating system to enhance your World applications. As you may already know, portions of JD Edwards World integrate tightly with the iSeries operating system. These programs are proprietary and protected and, as such, are maintained exclusively by my team as part of your paid maintenance.
The important point to take away from all this is that not only are we committed to ensuring your continued satisfaction but we also have the resources to deliver on that commitment. Oracle and PeopleSoft together now have more applications and database customers than any other vendor worldwide. With more than 58,000 employees supporting our business and servicing our customers worldwide, Oracle is committed to fulfilling its promise to deliver easier implementations, faster ROI, reduced risks, and lower costs.
Upgrade Value
Many of you have told us that you are happy with World and do not want to move to a new platform. Oracle has taken that feedback to heart and has pledged to continue support for World until at least 2013. This means that you can stay on World and obtain new updates to maximize your investment in the product. Our strategy for enhancements is to give priority to features that will
- Make it easier to upgrade
- Help our customers with compliance
- Help our customers expand to selected international markets and sites
- Help our customers get closer to their customers
- Help our customers drive expense out of their business
We are actively soliciting input from the World Product Users' Group, from the World Product Advisory Council, and directly from you. I encourage you to get involved in one of these groups and/or provide your feedback directly to me at worldinfo_us@oracle.com.
To those who are interested in the next generation of Oracle applications, I'm happy to report that we plan to provide an upgrade path to Project Fusion—the code name for the next generation of Oracle enterprise applications and the platform supporting those applications. With Project Fusion, we plan to combine the intellectual capital, technology resources, and industry best practices of the new combined company into one extremely powerful, cost–effective solution that will revolutionize how you use enterprise applications. We also plan to enhance all existing Oracle Application product lines, with improved functionality in the areas of service–oriented architecture, real-time business information, and superior ownership experience.
Oracle's plan is to continue to provide return on your investment in World through upgrades to the existing product line, and our goal is to make the optional direct upgrade to Project Fusion easy for you as a JD Edwards World customer. So if there is an application you are currently considering in any of the JD Edwards product lines but have been hesitating to purchase, rest assured that your investment will be protected if you move to Project Fusion.
Get Answers Firsthand
This letter is just the first installment of an interactive communications dialogue we want to have with you and every other World customer touched by Oracle's acquisition of PeopleSoft. Even more important is face-to-face contact, which is why we are planning a series of events over the next few months to answer your questions on the acquisition and get your strategic input on how our products, services, and support can continue to improve. Along with my colleagues in the World organization, I will host a World General Session at the Quest/OAUG meeting in June in Gaylord, Texas. Join me to hear more announcements about upcoming enhancements and the larger product road map. My staff; our partners; and you, our customers, will also have a chance to interact at 46 World-specific sessions and exhibits. I would like to encourage you to attend this meeting and learn more about World's future. To sign up, go to www.questdirect.org. (Note that the Quest meeting will be hosted by users, with participation by Oracle.)
In addition to recommending the Quest event, I'd like to personally invite each and every one of you to attend Oracle OpenWorld, scheduled for September 18–22, 2005, in San Francisco at the Moscone Center. The Oracle OpenWorld conference is hosted by Oracle, with input from user groups.
In keeping with the Oracle OpenWorld theme of "Information
in One Place," we will have a special two–day, World–only
program at the Argent Hotel during the conference, with an equally
special
reduced two-day registration rate. Attending OpenWorld is a great
opportunity to get an update on current World releases and our
progress toward Project Fusion, as well as a chance to meet the
entire Oracle executive team. I encourage you to register early
at oracle.com/openworld/index.html.
For other matters or questions, I encourage you to send an e-mail to worldinfo_us@oracle.com to get in touch with the right members of my applications product management, product strategy, and product marketing teams.
In closing, I'd like to share just one final thought as we move forward. We are better together, and without the support of great customers such as you, we are nothing. My team and I are absolutely committed to earning and maintaining your loyalty as a valued World customer and look forward to receiving your feedback on how we can do that job better. I encourage you to join us on our journey to become the world's leading provider of enterprise software applications and your trusted technology partner.
Sincerely,

John Schiff General Manager JD Edwards World Oracle
