Business Value and the Internet of Things: Challenges, Rewards

Discover innovative ways to use IoT data to deliver real value for users: make smarter decisions, enable new services and business models, and reduce costs.

In this connected world, the Internet of Things (IoT) and the proliferation of intelligent devices have created a market for entirely new solutions based on machine-to-machine (M2M) technology. Organizations need more innovative ways to harness ever-increasing amounts of data, and use it to drive smarter decisions, make possible new services and business models, and reduce costs.

Oracle is responding to these opportunities and challenges with the most complete end-to-end solutions in the market with our Internet of Things platform. Elements of this platform range from Java Embedded running on a wide array of sensors and devices, to innovative smart gateways that bring middleware out to the edge, to our world-class infrastructure products.

Join us at the Internet of Things Summit, sponsored by Freescale, and network with Oracle executives and thought leaders of the Internet of Things ecosystem.

Summit Highlights include:

  • Executive perspectives on the opportunities in today’s connected world
  • Discussions on how to exploit the value of data, harness innovation, and bring the power of data to your enterprise
  • Oracle’s platforms and solutions for connecting intelligent devices

Welcome and Opening Keynote: Navigating the Internet of Things

Sensors and data-collecting devices are becoming more and more common every day. Use cases range from measuring the strain on a racing boat's mast to remotely monitoring a patient's blood pressure to delivering the optimal offer to a customer based on their preferences, current location, and activity. In each case, solution developers must balance competing objectives for data collection, managing data transmission costs, and long-term data analysis versus immediate decision-making to take action. There is no single, correct answer and the challenges loom almost as large as the opportunities.

Oracle's Internet of Things platform brings its most powerful assets to bear on this new wave of innovation across numerous industries including telecoms, healthcare, utilities, and industrial automation.

Chris Baker, senior vice president, Worldwide ISV, OEM, and Java Sales at Oracle, will kick off the summit with navigating through the Internet of Things as we journey to discover innovative ways to harness your data, use it to drive smarter decisions, enable new services and business models, and reduce costs to deliver real value for customers and partners.

Building a Secure Service Infrastructure for the Internet of Things (IoT)

The infrastructure of the IoT plays a key role in the definition of the things that can be connected and the services that can be offered. It also impacts the industry’s focus on the problems that must be addressed first.

There are currently two distinct views of the infrastructure required to enable IoT services: those that define the IoT as telematics-type services connecting to the cloud exclusively through cellular networks, and those that envision the use of hierarchical gateways in conjunction with a broader range of communication topologies.

In this presentation, delivered by Freescale Executive Director of Global Strategy and Business Development Kaivan Karimi, you’ll learn more about these views, along with an architecture that leverages Java™ technology to build a secure service delivery infrastructure. This architecture will not only provide service coverage for things as defined by the cellular camp, but also the 95 percent of other things that are battery-powered and resource-constrained.
