Jobnet Recruits Oracle Real Application Clusters 10g on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Australia, 15 January 2005 – As testament to the relevance and affordability of its technology solutions, Oracle Australia today announced that Jobnet, one of Australia’s largest IT&T recruitment web sites, has gone live with Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition and Oracle Real Application Clusters, configured using Red Hat Enterprise Linux v3 on HP Intel-based servers. The state-of-the-art back end solution for Jobnet’s online service forms an immediate strategy to build the fastest possible online service today and a strong foundation for future growth. Jobnet’s early projections expect a full return on investment (ROI) within 18 months.

Jobnet selected the Oracle 10g architecture based on the recommendation of IT partner Seertech Solutions, a Sydney based IT consulting and software integration company and a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork. Seertech recommended Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition and Real Application Clusters on Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the reliable and robust platform to support Jobnet’s mission critical environment and provide a foundation for expansion. The decision demonstrates how Oracle’s offeringhas made what is essentially an enterprise-class solution entirely practical and realistic for a small company with seven employees and a turnover of $2 million.

The strategy to find the best platform on which to build a fast, scaleable and highly available solution endorses Oracle’s 10g cluster technology as ‘mission critical ready’ with a total up-time guarantee. Oracle’s clustering technology spreads the database workload across multiple servers, meaning that if one server fails, the workload is transferred to the remaining servers, thereby ensuring the highest levels of availability and reliability. Jobnet was able to rely on the advice and expertise of Oracle partner, Seertech Solutions to realise the suitability and affordability of clustering with Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition.

Affordability is a major concern for a small company like Jobnet and if state-of-the-art technology came at state-of-the-art prices then the solution would have priced Jobnet out of the market. However, Seertech’s Paul Hardwick saw Oracle’s introduction of Oracle Standard Edition and Oracle E-Business Suite Special Edition at the end of 2003 as a major breakthrough in making enterprise-level solutions viable and cost-effective for Seertech’s target market.
