Oracle President signs agreement with City of St Petersburg
On a visit to St Petersburg on August 16th, Oracle President Charles Phillips signed an Agreement on Intentions with the city's Governor, Ms. Valentina Matvienko. The Agreement signals both parties' interest in co-operating on a series of new e-government information systems that will deliver government services in the city and set an example for other Russian economic centres.
St. Petersburg is an important decision-making center that is pioneering the development of e-Government projects in Russia. In signing the Agreement on Intentions, Oracle and City of St Petersburg expressed mutual interest in considering co-operation in the design and implementation of a series of new city information systems based on leading-edge technologies, and which will integrate with the existing St. Petersburg IT systems
to provide government services to citizens and to businesses.
According to the Agreement on Intentions the City of St. Petersburg has the intention to use Oracle Corporation technologies and software products to fulfill the city's technology objectives. For its part Oracle will inform the City of St. Petersburg of the new possibilities and benefits of Oracle Database, Oracle Internet Platform, Oracle E-Business
Suite Applications as well as new Oracle products and services.
Any Oracle projects that may result from the Agreement on Intentions in St. Petersburg are expected to showcase the most advanced, internet-based
e-government systems as a leading example for other Russian economic centers.
Commenting on the Agreement, Oracle President Charles Phillips said, "The expansion of our cooperation with the City of St. Petersburg is extremely important for us. Our experience in e-government projects can help the City deliver better services to its citizens more effectively and comprehensively. Additionally, through our agreement and development of any future project, we can help other forward-thinking governments in Russia take advantage of a wealth of Oracle technologies to build the best and most cost-effective systems to
accelerate economic and social development."
In further support of its commitment to St. Petersburg, Oracle announced that it is opening a new office in the city that will play a major role as a local Government
Center of Excellence.
