Hutchison-Priceline Chosen As First
Oracle Customer Worldwide
For ROI Study On Oracle9i Database and Oracle Collaboration Suite
Hong Kong, November 13, 2002 – Oracle
Systems Hong Kong Limited (“Oracle Hong Kong”), a wholly owned subsidiary
of Oracle Corporation, the world’s largest enterprise software company,
today announced that Hutchison-Priceline, Asia’s “Name Your Own Price”
Internet Travel Service for airline tickets and hotel rooms, has been
selected as the first customer worldwide for a Return On Investment (ROI)
study on its implementation of Oracle9i Database and Oracle Email –
a key component of the Oracle Collaboration Suite.
With global firms in tough economic conditions needing
quick and tangible ROI data to justify their IT investment, the Oracle
ROI study has been specifically developed to calculate the full economic
impact of installing Oracle E-Business Suite 11i and/or Oracle9i technology.
Hutchison-Priceline was chosen because of its extremely demanding high
availability requirements for email, Web, and database applications.
In mid-October this year, Australian research agency,
ASRC, began a five-week enterprise-wide ROI study across Hutchison-Priceline’s
operations to assess the benefits derived from Oracle9i Database with
Oracle9i Real Application Clusters (RAC), and Oracle Email – part of
the Oracle Collaboration Suite. The results of this analysis are expected
to assist Hutchison-Priceline’s processes and clarify the actual effects
of the technology implementation.
“Oracle Email and Oracle9i Real Application Clusters
are vital components of our ‘Unbreakable’ strategy,” said Parakh
Davé, chief technology officer for Hutchison-Priceline (Travel) Limited.
“We are delighted to be selected by Oracle as the first technology customer
for its ROI study. This will provide a professional and objective assessment
of our strategy and IT investment as a whole.”
“This ROI study will help us to compare the investment
results with our initial goals, and to consistently monitor the progress
made and benefits derived from our IT investment. This will definitely
help us to formulate sound and realistic business plans in future,”
he added.
The Oracle ROI study will cover the benefits that come
from using Oracle technology, including cost savings and quality of service.
Key performance metrics include: availability and content management,
information analysis capability, scalability, development, security, reliability,
fault resiliency, customer retention and customer satisfaction.
“In this competitive business landscape, everyone
is demanding ’value for money’, and companies are more cautious about
committing resources on IT investment,” said Tony Banham, senior director,
Customer Reference Program, Oracle Asia Pacific, “By working with selected
customers like Hutchison-Priceline to conduct these ROI studies, we help
them to pinpoint the benefits of their IT spending and better run their
businesses using the insights provided. At the same time, Oracle can better
tailor its offerings to meet customers’ real business needs.”

in the United States. Hutchison brings to the alliance its unparalleled
brand, huge customer pool, vast management experience and deep knowledge

Hutchison-Priceline (Travel) Ltd operates a unique Name

an international-brand or boutique hotel.
Hutchison-Priceline (Travel) Ltd works with one of the
travel industry's largest collections of travel suppliers. These include
32 Asian and international airlines and more than 8,000 hotel properties
around the world.
