Dragonair drives advanced IT strategy
with Oracle
Standardises core business applications
on Oracle E-Business Suite
under long term strategic plan
Hong Kong, November 27, 2002 – Oracle
Systems Hong Kong Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oracle Corporation,
the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced that
Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Limited (“Dragonair”) has standardised
all of its core business applications on Oracle, following the deployment
of Oracle’s web-based procurement solution.
By fully adopting Oracle’s integrated application
architecture under a well established strategic IT plan, Dragonair aims
to further automate its main business processes to cope with continuous
business growth.
The 2,000+ employee airline first selected Oracle in
1996, as part of a growth-focused long-term IT strategy to drive business
improvements with industry-proven advanced enterprise software. Dragonair
uses Oracle Financials and Oracle Human Resources Management System, together
with Oracle’s database technology and tools, to improve its operational
efficiencies and better manage its ever-growing business. Oracle technology
allows Dragonair to consolidate data from other vendors’ applications,
and Oracle’s architecture allows Dragonair to continuously upgrade
and improve its IT base, in line with its original vision of sustained
dynamic growth.
“Dragonair has come a long way in its 17 years of
operation and our continued investment in the latest e-business applications
is a reflection of the focus on business improvement that now exists at
the airline, and we are building the systems to embody this vision,”
said Francis Wai, Chief Financial Officer, Dragonair.
Serving 28 passenger destinations across Asia, with
a catchment area spanning half the world’s population, Dragonair needed
a system that would streamline its business processes and eliminate paper
pushing, while providing strategic information that could be used to make
better commercial decisions.
“We aim to bring all of our diverse IT systems together
into a single low-cost consolidated infrastructure that seamlessly connects
to other operating systems for passengers and cargo,” Mr Wai continued.
“Oracle Procurement will replace manually-intensive requisition and
payment processes with data-enabled systems that will give Dragonair full
visibility into its aggregate spending with suppliers. The Oracle solution
will enable Dragonair to leverage our corporate-wide buying power, thus
helping us negotiate better contracts with suppliers and substantially
reducing our spending.”
PCCW Limited, one of Asia's leading integrated communications
companies, a member of Oracle PartnerNetwork and an Oracle Certified Partner,
is responsible for the provision and implementation of the Internet procurement
solution, including hardware, for Dragonair.
Oracle Procurement will be fully integrated with Oracle
Financials – to help reduce manual data entry and increase efficiency.
Oracle Purchasing Intelligence will also allow the company to continuously
improve its processes and reduce costs by analyzing purchasing habits,
such as catalogue versus non-catalogue spending.
“Oracle’s E-Business Suite provides a level of
business intelligence that enables corporations to thoroughly analyse
strategic management information from different dimensions, for which
Oracle Procurement is a critical component,” said Arics Poon, managing
director, Oracle Hong Kong. “As Dragonair is geographically dispersed
over a number of cities in the Asia Pacific region, Oracle’s Procurement
solution effectively centralises the purchasing function, locating the
right products from approved vendors at the right prices to allow dramatically
improved productivity with easier access to critical information.”
