Oracle Academic Initiative Delivers HK$20 Million in Software to
Drive E-Business Learning in Hong Kong

Donations Support Vocational Training Council in
Preparing Students for the Workforce

Hong Kong, March 25, 2004 - The Vocational Training Council (VTC), Hong Kong’s largest provider of vocational education and training, has enhanced its business education by offering cutting-edge business application software training to students in the Department of Business Services and Management, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Tsing Yi) under the Oracle Academic Initiative (OAI) e-business program.

Supported with software and services from Oracle worth more than HK$20 million, the program has been helping institutions in Hong Kong enhance students’ competitiveness since 2001. The OAI e-business program provides training in the latest enterprise application software in response to industry demands for managers and staff better skilled in streamlining business processes and increasing operational efficiency. Local institutions that have benefited from the program include the Chinese University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong.

Under the special partnership and donation from Oracle, hundreds of business students at VTC’s Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education in Tsing Yi will gain classroom access to the Oracle E-Business Suite starting from September 2004. The Oracle E-Business Suite is a complete set of applications capable of automating daily business processes in supply chain and logistic management, procurement and sourcing, customer relationship management, accounting information systems and human resources management.

“The donation represents an important partnership between industry and the VTC, through which our students will be given an unprecedented opportunity to learn, with the aid of updated technology and practical skills for modern enterprise management,” said Carrie Willis, Acting Executive Director, HK Vocational Training Council. “Students would have the hands-on training in a leading software to consolidate the concepts acquired. This kind of hands-on training is exactly the requirement sought after by prospective employers.”

Oracle’s E-Business Suite will be incorporated into VTC’s course programs of the Higher Diploma in Business Information Systems, Transport and Logistics Studies, Business Promotion and Events Management, Corporate Administration and Systems, and Enterprise Management.

“We are pleased to extend the tremendous benefits of the Oracle Academic Initiative to the VTC,” said Arics Poon, Managing Director, Oracle South China and Hong Kong. “I am impressed by VTC’s plan to integrate Oracle technology into their business and management curriculum, and to equip their students with industry-relevant skills. This effort will help to develop local technology talent as Hong Kong gradually becomes a knowledge-based economy.”
