Oracle Contributes RMB 13 Million in Software and
Training to Foster E-Business Development in China

Donation Will Support Sun Yat-sen University to
Nurture Talent in Response to Growing Demand for
E-Business Professionals

GUANGZHOU, China, June 17, 2004 - Oracle today announced support for a new e-business laboratory at Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University, a leading university located in Guangzhou, China. The e-business lab is the first of its kind in China and the donation, valued at RMB13 million (US$1.5 million) in software and training, is provided under the Oracle Academic Initiative (OAI) designed to help students develop the practical business skills that give them an advantage in the mainland’s increasingly competitive labor market.

Situated in one of China's and the world's most dynamic economic regions, Sun Yat-sen University has been a key driving force in the training of students in new technologies that enable them to contribute in the rapid economic development of China and Pearl River Delta. To further this goal, Lingnan College partners with a number of leading global institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to provide top MBA programs to both local and overseas students.

An integral part of Oracle's Golden China strategy of commitment, partnership and localization, OAI is a key element of Oracle's Education Initiative designed to help accelerate the growth of China's IT industry by educating top flight graduates in modern commercial practices. Under this OAI e-business program from Oracle, undergraduates and MBA students of Sun Yat-sen University will be able to gain unprecedented access to Oracle E-Business Suite under the university's new Information Management Business Administration program.

"With the ongoing globalisation of the Chinese economy and accelerating speed of technological adoption, we have seen a growing demand for managers and staff who have a sound understanding of modern enterprise applications," said Huang Daren, president of Sun Yat-sen University. "We are greatly honored to receive the generous support from Oracle who are committed to helping raise our teaching environment to international levels. The e-business lab provides an excellent opportunity for our students to learn key industry-relevant skills before entering the workforce."

The Oracle E-Business Suite is a comprehensive set of applications capable of automating daily business processes in supply chain and logistic management, procurement and sourcing, customer relationship management, accounting information systems and human resources management. The applications have been helping enterprises around the world to manage daily business processes and excel in the growing competitive business environment.

"We are very pleased to announce our partnership with Sun Yat-sen University and through this relationship be able to participate in driving e-business development in China through the OAI program," said Arics Poon, managing director, Oracle South China and Hong Kong. "Oracle has been actively engaged in developing local technology talent worldwide. The opening of this new e-Business lab at Lingnan College is a new milestone and demonstrates Oracle's long-term commitment to China."
