Roger Li Named Regional Managing Director of Oracle Greater China
Li to lead management team to drive Golden China initiative and
growth in fast-growing Greater China region Hong Kong, 1 June 2006 - Oracle Asia Pacific today announced the appointment of Roger Li - previously Managing Director for Oracle North China - as Regional Managing Director for Oracle Greater China, effective 1st June 2006. The Oracle Greater China region comprises the key markets of mainland China, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan.
Li's appointment to lead Oracle's Greater China regional management team comes as the company steps up the momentum and roll-out of the second phase of its Oracle Golden China initiative. At the core of the Golden China initiative is Oracle's strategy to be a partner of choice to government, customers, software industry, community and employees through a deep commitment to localization and partnership. One of the key priorities in the second phase of the Golden China initiative is to rapidly expand Oracle's presence by investing in new operations in multiple key Chinese cities including fast-growing provincial capital economies. As the expansion is resulting in a significant acceleration of government, customer, partner and employee engagement and support across China and the Greater China region, this new management team structure will drive increased focus and enable the company to effectively establish new business opportunities, facilitate strategic decision-making, and enhance long-term customer satisfaction.
In this position, Li reports to Brian Mitchell, Senior Vice President of Oracle Asia Pacific. Based in Beijing, Li will lead the Greater China management team to deliver maximum business coverage and address new opportunities in one of the world's fastest growing regions and markets. Key members of Oracle's Greater China management team reporting into Li include: Arics Poon, Managing Director of Oracle South China and Hong Kong; Gary Wu, Managing Director of Oracle Taiwan; Yan Xuan, Vice President of Government and Business Development, Oracle China, as well as a number of regional directors in Greater China. Li will continue to be responsible for the North China region.
"The on-going efforts of Oracle's Greater China senior management team have over the years helped solidify Oracle's reputation as a respected and trusted partner in the growth and development of China's economy and software industry," said Mitchell. "As part of the second phase of Oracle's Golden China initiative, we are setting out even more ambitious goals for the company, working with government, customers and partners to benefit the wider community across China. This will have positive impact on the Greater China region as a whole."
"Li has an excellent track record in Oracle. Over the last two years, he has held the dual roles of Managing Director of North China and General Manager of Communications, Media and Utilities industries for Greater China," said Mitchell. "I am confident that Li's drive and experience puts us in good stead to build on Oracle's successful track record and the management team's capabilities to steer Oracle to greater success across Greater China."
Li, a Hong Kong-Chinese, joined Oracle in July 2003 as the General Manager of Communications, Media and Utilities (CMU) Industries for Greater China and assumed additional responsibility as Managing Director for Oracle's North China region in May 2004. Li has more than 20 years of experience in the IT and telecommunications industry in China, Asia Pacific and North America, including more than 10 years in various management roles in China.
"I am proud to be a part of the Oracle Greater China management team, which has delivered significant success over the past few years," said Li. "This expanded role provides me with new opportunities to continue working with the management team to make the Oracle Greater China organization a truly innovative, efficient and trusted organization for all our stakeholders."
Oracle China has grown significantly in the last few years. In FY2005 (ended May 31, 2005), China topped the Asia Pacific markets (excluding Japan) for the first time in new license software sales revenues. Globally, Oracle China climbed to sixth position, from 10th position three years earlier.
