Wah Shing Toys Selects Oracle and IBM for ERP Implementation
ERP System to Create Efficiencies for Growing Business
Hong Kong , July 30, 2007 - Wah Shing Toys Co Ltd (WST) has selected software from Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) and services from IBM (NYSE: IBM) to create an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that will address its business growth needs. IBM Global Business Services will be responsible for delivering the ERP system, based on Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.
WST has been manufacturing in China since 1981 and has commissioned the new ERP system in order to transform its business by integrating processes across its network of six factories in the PRC. Faced by increasingly diversified market demands, the company needed to continuously improve its operations efficiencies and logistics infrastructure and information flow.
"Our customers are placing smaller but more frequent orders, demanding faster product innovation, shorter lead times and a great deal more status information," said Richard Ellert, Managing Director of Wah Shing Toys. "At the same time we have to cope with rising material costs, a complex supply chain and an increasing regulatory burden.
Ellert said, "We fully appreciate the critical role that our IT infrastructure plays in our success and we have invested heavily in this area in recent years. This new ERP project is the first step in a long-term effort to address the challenges of integrating key management functions and resource deployment. With the support of IBM and Oracle, this system will help WST transform its business and seize future opportunities."
Drawing on its extensive experience with manufacturers, IBM Global Business Services will design an ERP system that is customized to WST's business requirements to address the toy maker's specific short- and long-term needs.
"Ultimately WST will have a fully integrated logistics flow, information flow and financial management systems across its Hong Kong and mainland operations," said Alfred Yim, Manager of Global Mid-market Business, IBM South China/Southwest Region. "In addition, we will provide comprehensive, customized training for WST staff, so they can quickly realize the business efficiencies inherent in the new ERP system. We are delighted to have this opportunity to collaborate with Oracle to support WST's transformation and growth."
WST's top management was closely involved in the evaluation of potential technology platforms for the company's business transformation program, and consulted with consumer goods manufacturers around the world. The evaluation team concluded that Oracle provided the most flexible solution, capable of supporting its continually evolving business requirements.
"We have worked closely with WST to map out a solution for their business challenges and the implementation of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 will enable them to realise the benefits of having a unified data model for product, customer and project information at the heart of its operations," said Rudolf Ho, Sales Director, Oracle Applications, Oracle Systems (HK) Ltd. "The implementation includes automated work flow and management by exception, which are the foundations for better control of the business. WST will also gain operational efficiencies that are brought about by tighter engineering communication, advanced supply chain planning and improved production scheduling."
The phased roll out will begin immediately, and all modules are planned to be operational by May 2008. In order to avoid clashes with the June to October peak manufacturing period, IBM will first implement the financial management module, followed by the production and supply chain modules.
