Hong Kong Housing Society Reaps Improved Security and Operational Efficiencies from Oracle Identity Management

Enhanced Customer Service Expected to Propel Organization Towards ISO 20000 Certification in 2008

Hong Kong , October 11, 2007 - The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) has selected Oracle Identity Management, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, to help improve and secure its business operations and enhance customer service across its Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform. HKHS aims to realize gains in efficiencies, improved security and user experience by integrating, streamlining and automating user access across all of HKHS' application systems, including Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Capital Management, and processes.

"The maturing of Web services standards presents us with an opportunity to undertake a fundamental transformation of our software infrastructure to one that is service-oriented," said Peter Miao, Corporate Information Technology Manager, Hong Kong Housing Society.

"HKHS chose Oracle's identity and access management software to provide a consistent set of services across all our business processes in our service-oriented IT environment. This will help improve security, lower administrative costs and provide greater scalability for HKHS. In turn, we can raise the IT service levels with increased manpower resources, helping us achieve our goal of gaining ISO 20000 best practices that Housing Society has adopted since July 2006." He added, "We are moving forward with Oracle Service Registry to make Web services available under governed policies established in Oracle Web Services Manager."

HKHS aims to reduce its operational costs by eliminating the increasing burden of manually synchronising user accounts and granting access rights to users and partners across its applications. Oracle Internet Directory and Oracle Virtual Directory have been implemented and interfaced with HKHS' PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Capital Management system to create a user data repository which will support the identity management and access control functions.

Oracle Identity Manager will be used to provide a comprehensive range of user identity and role lifecycle functions while Oracle Access Manager will deliver authentication, Web single sign-on, access policy creation and enforcement, reporting and auditing across HKHS' IT infrastructure. In October 2007, HKHS will evaluate different approaches to authentication and set standards for its developers currently working on the migration of applications to its SOA platform.

Automated Systems (HK) Limited, a Certified Advantage Partner in the Oracle PartnerNetwork, will aid HKHS in migrating eight major business processes, representing 90% of HKHS' back-end execution, to HKHS' SOA platform by the end of March 2008, with another six processes to be added at a later date.

"The Hong Kong Housing Society is a true pioneer in tapping the power of identity management solutions to include security and compliance functions in an enterprise-wide SOA deployment in Hong Kong," said Dennis Yeung, Managing Director for Oracle Systems HK Limited. "Oracle is very honored to be chosen after a rigorous evaluation process by HKHS to play a key role in this ground-breaking project. The Society, its customers and partners stand to benefit from the resulting and increased pace of innovation and resulting quality-of-service improvements for years to come."
