The European Development Centre is the Oracle flagship development and translation organization in Europe. These teams employ more than 250 highly talented and dedicated professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds around the world; approximately 135 of whom are based in Dublin.

Within EDC there is a broad range of software engineering activities:

  • The Worldwide Product Translation Group (WPTG) is responsible for the translation/localisation of all of Oracle's products for the global market. It is an international organisation with main translation centres in China, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. WPTG test, debug, and build Oracle products for the global market, playing a pivotal role in the company's worldwide growth. The engineering focus for this group is on automating processes to facilitate high volume throughput. Their main skillset incorporates Unix, PERL, PL / SQL + in depth knowledge of Oracle products and technologies.

  • The Global Product Engineering (GPE) group is a systems engineering group that focuses on porting and supporting Oracle core products (Server, Tools, Applications Server, Collaboration Suite) on a range of high end platform platforms, ( e.g. HPUX, HP IA64, Linux, Linux IA64, Tru64, Solaris64 and AIX5L).. This group is part of a virtual team with their counterparts in the US/India. Their main skillset is problem resolution, product integration and process engineering incorporating, C, C++, Java, Unix/Linux, PERL, PL/SQL, XML and Oracle DBA knowledge.

  • The Oracle Certification Environment (OCE) group is an engineering group that develops certification environments for Oracle's operating system and hardware partners. These partners use the certification environments to test their latest software and hardware products with Oracle's product offerings. The skill mix of the OCE engineers includes Java, Oracle DBA, PL / SQL, Unix and Windows NT.

  • The Migration Technology Group (MTG) is a development group that develops tools and engineered services to enable companies to migrate their non-Oracle databases and applications to the Oracle platform.. Their main skillset incorporates Java, XML, PL / SQL and a deep understanding of our competitor technologies.

  • The System and Services Engineering Group is a center of expertise for Oracle's E-Business Suite applications. They have a number of different roles including the testing of international versions of the applications, performance tuning and test automation. In addition they provide engineering support to Oracle's E-Business suite outsourcing business in EMEA. Their main skillset incorporates Unix, PL/SQL, Java and Oracle DBA particularly performance tuning.
