Supreme Commission for Tourism in Saudi Arabia selects Oracle E-Business Suite

HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman commends the successful implementation

Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, April 9 th 2006 – At a press conference attended by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan ibn Salman ibn Abdulaziz al Saud, The Supreme Commission for Tourism in Saudi Arabia today announced the completion of their Oracle E-Business Suite implementation. Streamlining the financial, enterprise project management, HR, payroll and procurement departments in the Kingdom’s visionary Tourism Commission will allow management streamlined access to information from across the Commission, enhancing business flexibility.

This visionary project has enabled the commission to incorporate all Saudi localization guidelines in their infrastructure to drive the intake of Saudi youth into the Tourism industry. The project will help to drive new projects implemented by the business development team, as well as improving financial reporting, enhancing overall business efficiencies, maximizing the return on human talent, and increasing the quality of customer service.

The Oracle E-Business Suite project at The Supreme Commission for Tourism in Saudi Arabia is presided over by His Highness Prince Sultan ibn Salman ibn Abdulaziz al Saud, who acts as the Secretary General, Minister for Tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Chairman of the Advisory Board and the Executive Committee.

“The establishment of the Supreme Commission for Tourism in 1421 (western date) was based on the understanding that tourism is not a goal, but a tool to contribute to national development, and that tourism is by nature an integrated industry,” commented HRH Prince Sultan ibn Salman ibn Abdulaziz al Saud. “Working closely with the Oracle Saudi Arabia team has enabled us to leverage their world class tools such as Oracle E-Business Suite to work towards our national goals such as the Saudi-zation of the work force, including the tourism field. This will empower our existing employees and encourage the determination of our graduates to drive the Saudi Tourism industry forward in line with the concept of Value based Tourism.”

“Tourism development contributes to the increase of income, job creation and therefore enhancement of the culture and tradition of the Kingdom, and the fast pace of growth that the Commission has achieved so far led us to look for an integrated system that can support the many offices around the Kingdom, which we found when working with the Oracle Riyadh team,” His Highness concluded.

Selecting the integrated environment of Oracle E-Business Suite allows the management team to monitor data from across the organization ensuring that new projects being driven by the management team are linked across departments. The HR department could utilize the localization tools to ensure that projects are being staffed correctly, and quickly provide details of project staff to the finance department, as well as payroll. With projects such as the Onaiza tourism festival Seyahee 28, or Abha's Summer Multaka 1428 currently underway, and an exciting program of visits and cultural spectaculars planned by the Tourism teams, the Commission required a sophisticated environment to ensure world class delivery in the back office, as well as on every project.

“Localization is an important issue which affects every element of business today in Saudi Arabia, and it is important to give business managers the tools to enable them to open up opportunities to the graduates who are keen to work in the Kingdom’s dynamic tourism industry,” commented Abdul Rahman Al Thehaiban, Oracle’s managing director, Saudi Arabia. “By consolidating operational information through Arabized software and applications, the solution will give senior management a transparent view of real time data as well as making the systems simple for new graduates learning the ropes in the Tourism Commission.”

Oracle E-Business Suite offers a fully integrated, comprehensive suite of business applications for the enterprise. Because the Oracle system employs open standards, it will provide The Supreme Commission for Tourism in Saudi Arabia with an easier path to future expansion and upgrades to support their ongoing growth.
