Bank of Alexandria Selects Oracle Collaboration Suite

Better E-Mail Reliability, FileSharing, and Higher Security Behind the Bank's Decision

CAIRO, Egypt, 28 March 2005 - Oracle Corp (Nasdaq: ORCL), the world's largest enterprise software company, announces the implementation of its Oracle Collaboration Suite at the Bank of Alexandria. The Oracle Collaboration Suite will be used to simplify communications and the sharing of customer and internal information across almost 200 branches and offices around the country.

Oracle Collaboration Suite is designed to manage all of a company's messaging and collaboration needs, delivering voice, wireless, Web and desktop access to all communications including email, voicemail, fax, files and calendar on an enterprise-class, scalable, reliable, available and secure infrastructure.

The Bank of Alexandria is one of Egypt's most important financial institutions, and is the largest single investor in the country's expanding industrial sector. With 195 branches countrywide, and an operation that encompasses transactions of every size, from major financing initiatives to personal saving schemes, the bank is deploying Oracle Collaboration Suite to simplify what was previously a network of complex communications options.

"Oracle's Collaboration Suite will help us simplify our communication and information-sharing processes, boosting the productivity of our staff. From an external perspective, Bank of Alexandria will now have a consolidated record of all of our communications with customers, from e-mail to voicemail, and file updates, so we have more complete record-keeping policies and can better track the demands of our clients," said the Bank of Alexandria's Head of Banking Operation, Hazem Medani

"The initial deployment of the Oracle Collaboration Suite will take the form of a pilot implementation at our head office. The solution will be extended to other branches within two years, allowing all areas of our operation to benefit. With everything from email to voicemail, wireless, voice and fax covered by the Oracle Collaboration Suite, internal and external communications will be easier and more efficient to store and manage than ever before," Medani added.

A key reason for Bank of Alexandria's move to the Oracle Collaboration Suite is the support that it provides for compliance with new rules on corporate governance, including the Basel II recommendations on risk management. Banks throughout the region must now store and make available all data relating to their business activities and also prove that the processes that created the data are in compliance, including operational and financial data. Posing particular difficulty is the more difficult-to-manage "unstructured" data, such as e-mail messages and their attachments, and even multimedia data, such as certain types of telephone conversations and video conferences, which must be retained.

Oracle Collaboration Suite will enable Bank of Alexandria to store and manage its vast data reserves in a way that is rapidly accessible and "tamper-proof". The Bank will also use the Oracle solution to reduce the costs of its information storage by moving infrequently accessed files to less expensive storage media.

The full range of Oracle Collaboration Suite modules is being implemented by the Bank. These efficiency-boosting elements include the Oracle Calendar, a time management solution; Oracle Files, which can store servers-full of information on a prioritized, accessible basis; and Oracle Ultra Search, which permits users to search across their organization's entire content assets, in a single, fast search.

Other components of the Oracle Collaboration Suite will integrate the Bank of Alexandria's complicated communications network. This integration effort covers web conferencing, IP telephony and other cost saving features. Resources such as e-mail, faxes and voicemail will be stored in the same place, making retrieval quick and easy. The emphasis, as with all of Oracle's innovative business software solutions, is on simplification, accessibility and productivity.

The Oracle Collaboration Suite has been implemented at the Bank of Alexandria by Oracle Egypt.
