Willem-Pieter van der Lugt
Willem-Pieter started working with Oracle products nineteen years ago, and spent most of this time as a consultant at Oracle The Netherlands. His experience goes back to Oracle Forms and Oracle Designer. During this period he started implementing development, test, and production environments. With the rise of Internet applications, High Availability became more and more important for customers. Willem-Pieter worked on designing High Availability architectures and implementing Oracle databases and Application Server. For an Internet Service Provider he was also involved in maintenance with the High Available Oracle environment, and saw himself the cause and effects of downtimes; this led to insights for new designs. Recently, Willem-Pieter gained experience with virtualization that brings new solutions to High Availability.

High Availability Architecture Overview
with Willem-Pieter van der Lugt
High Availability (HA) becomes more and more important for running mission critical applications. Oracle has many solutions to address High Availability needs. What are the cause of downtime, what options are available, and what's the best choice for the specific situation?
This seminar will give you an overview of pre-requisites that need to be in place before starting to implement High Availability architectures. It will also discuss Oracle technologies, and new technologies like virtualization. After the right technology choice is made, an approach is presented to implement High Availability environments.
