Oracle Collaboration Suite: обсуждение терминологии

Введение

Для обсуждения предлагаются термины, обнаруженные при переводе анонсов курсов Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g: Supporting Users, Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g: System Management and Maintenance и Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g: Content Services Administration, которые отсутствуют в нашем глоссарии (http://www.rdtex.ru/docs/glossary/).

Applications Tier

Контекст.

  • Oracle Collaboration Suite is composed of three conceptual tiers, or layers. The Infrastructure tier of Oracle Collaboration Suite consists of Oracle Database 10g and the necessary Oracle Internet Directory components to support the second tier, the Applications Tier. The Applications tier consists of the components that are the heart of Oracle Collaboration Suite’s functionality. The third conceptual tier of Oracle Collaboration Suite is the Client tier. The Client tier of Oracle Collaboration Suite consists of the end-user applications that reside on client devices, such as desktops, laptops, wireless phones, and PDAs.
  • The tier of Oracle Collaboration Suite that runs the server applications that provide specific functionality to end-users. The term "Applications tier" replaces the term "middle tier" that was used in previous releases. Each Applications tier corresponds to an instance of Oracle Application Server. А. Бачин. Очень не нравится вариант "tier = звено". Предлагаю перевод "tier = слой": cлой клиента, слой инфраструктуры и так далее – смотрится лучше, да и можно говорить о "толщине слоя", "мощности слоя" "структуре слоя", что весьма спорно звучит при использовании термина "звено".

М. Р. Когаловский. Учитывая устоявшиеся русскоязычные аналоги (двухзвенная, трехзвенная архитектура "клиент-сервер") вполне уместно использовать здесь предложенный вариант перевода. Однако, между указанными звеньями архитектуры очевидно существует иерархическое отношение, что позволяет буквально перевести "tier" как "слой" или "уровень". Не случайно авторы явно упоминают в приведенном контексте термин "layer". Для меня более предпочтителен вариант уровень приложений". Но это мой вкусовой выбор одной из трех приемлемых альтернатив.

Предлагаемый вариант перевода: локализация

А. Золотарёв. Меня смущает перевод термина "locating". Я бы его переводил бы не как "локализация", а как "обнаружение", "нахождение", "поиск". У меня "локализация" при прочтении перевода анонса курса связывался в голове постоянно с процессом языковой локализации.

Например, "Locating and Updating a users Calendar account = "Нахождение и обновление учетной записи группы пользователей приложения".

А вот "Локализация сайта и и распространение его свойств" точно наводит на мысли о создании новой языковой версии сайта. Точнее сказать, что имелось ввиду, можно по моей версии так: "Нахождение сайта и распространение его свойств."

А. Соколов. Меня это тоже несколько смущает. Однако:

Толковый словарь Ефремовой:

  • локализовать
    Ограничивать что-либо определенным местом; не допускать распространения чего-либо дальше определенных пределов.

А. Бачин. Все правильно, Наконец-то мы наткнулись на те грабли, о которых я предупреждал много лет назад, когда "локализацией" жестко и твердо скалькировали этот термин для перевода документации на русский язык.

В данном же случае я предложил бы как паллиатив термин "привязка", например: "Locating and Updating a users Calendar account" – "привязка или (и) обновление учетной записи пользователя Календаря" и т.п.

А. Соколов. Зачем же вводить еще один новодел?

А. Бачин. Почему "новодел"? Тогда и "обнаружение", "нахождение", "поиск" – тоже термины-новоделы! Скоро у нас не будет простых слов, кроме союзов и запятых, а только термины, которые тоже нужно объяснять терминами

Log Loader

Контекст.

The Oracle Collaboration Suite Log Loader component is a process that periodically updates a Log Repository. A Log Repository stores diagnostic messages read from multiple log files across Oracle Collaboration Suite components in a single Oracle home. After the Log Loader starts, at regular intervals it reads the contents of log files incrementally and writes the contents to the Log Repository.

Контекст.

The Oracle Collaboration Suite Control supports viewing diagnostic messages from a Log Repository. A Log Repository can be file-based or stored in a database, and contains messages collected from multiple diagnostic log files across components. A Log Loader does not contain messages from access or trace log files because access logs and trace logs are verbose and do not contain diagnostic information.

Correlating Messages Across Log Files and Components. Certain Oracle Collaboration Suite components provide message correlation information for diagnostic messages. Message correlation information helps those viewing diagnostic messages determine relationships between messages across components. The Execution Context ID (ECID), is a globally unique identifier associated with a thread of execution. The ECID helps you to use log file entries to correlate messages from one application or across application server components. By searching related messages using the message correlation information, multiple messages can be examined and the component that first generates a problem can be identified (this technique is called first-fault component isolation). Message correlation data can help establish a clear path for a diagnostic message across components, within which errors and related behavior can be understood.

А. Бачин. Совершенно непонятно, почему и здесь "isolation" переводится как "локализация"? Что переводчик других слов не знает?! Например "выявление" или, на худой конец, калька => "изоляция"!!

Oracle Calendar

Контекст.

Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Calendar is the time management and resource scheduling component of Oracle Collaboration Suite. The Oracle Calendar server centrally maintains and provides access to up-to-the-minute scheduling information for all Oracle Calendar users and resources. This centralization of information ensures that users are able to check each other’s schedules with complete accuracy. This means there are no lags or message queues, and there is no replication for any calendar-related data. Oracle Calendar features e-mail and wireless alerts, support for multiple operating systems, desktop clients, a Web client, synchronization tools for hand-held devices and a framework for enhanced security. Additionally, Oracle Calendar can be deployed as a "standalone" product.

М. Р. Когаловский. Вероятно, Oracle Calendar действительно следует квалифицировать как приложение. Однако в приведенном контексте он называется более общо – компонентом Oracle Collaboration Suite. Нужно заметить, что здесь и далее "приложение XXX" – двусмысленное словосочетание. С одной стороны его можно трактовать как приложение с названием XXX. С другой стороны, можно понять так, что имеется в виду некоторое приложение продукта (системы …), называемой XXX.

А. Соколов. Я в некотором затруднении. Здесь и во всех других указанных Вами случаях в документации как синонимы используются названия "Oracle Collaboration Suite [10g] XXX" и "Oracle XXX". Наверное, чтобы не перегружать русский текст, следует давать оба факультативных варианта.

Контекст.

An integrated suite of software applications to enable communication, messaging, and content sharing in an enterprise environment. At an architectural level, it includes three tiers: an Applications Tier, which consists of server applications that provide the basic functionality, a Client Tier, which consists of applications on desktops, laptops, and wireless devices, and an Infrastructure Tier, which provides centralized services, such as identity management and metadata storage, for the applications.

А. Соколов. Название продукта Oracle Collaboration Suite ни о чем не говорит обычному русскоязычному пользователю, поэтому, наверное, смело можно использовать аббревиатуру. OCS

М. Р. Когаловский. В приведенном наименовании продукта ощущается избыточность – продукт, который предназначен для взаимодействия пользователей этого продукта. Кроме того, речь идет не об описании функциональности данного продукта, а о его наименовании. В стиле, который был предложен выше, было бы естественно использовать здесь "продукт Oracle Collaboration Suite (OCS)".

А. Соколов. В русифицированной версии ПО неудачно, на мой взгляд, выбран перевод названия этого приложения – ведь могут обсуждаться не только спорные вопросы. Вместе с тем, в текстах справок встречается и термин "обсуждения".

Oracle Drive

Контекст.

Oracle Drive is a desktop client for Oracle's WebDAV servers, such as Oracle Content Services and Oracle Portal. Oracle Drive allows you to access Oracle WebDAV files and file properties through a mapped drive in Windows Explorer, as well as from any Windows application's Open and Save As dialogs. You can also use Oracle Drive's offline and synchronization capabilities to manage files when you are disconnected from the network. Oracle Drive also allows you to back up the files on your hard disk to a server.

  • A mail rule is a potential action that, when a certain event happens and a certain condition is satisfied, is taken upon an e-mail message on behalf of the owner of the rule. Rules can be created and stored persistently on the mail server.

The service targets monitor the Oracle Mail services. Thus, it is most beneficial to locate these targets close to where the user community using the services resides. It is also possible to create multiple targets for each service in order to measure responsiveness from multiple geographical locations.

One service target must be created for each service type. For example, an SMTP IN Service is implemented over four hosts; however, only one target is needed to monitor the overall service.

  • The installation can be a single-box installation or a distributed (multi-box) installation with Oracle Mobile Collaboration running on a single Applications tier.
  • The single-computer deployment is the simplest Oracle Collaboration Suite deployment configuration. It is generally used by small organizations, for testing and demonstration purposes, or pilot programs. Single-computer deployments may be cost effective for small organizations, however they provide no allowance for high availability since all components are stored on the same machine.

The Provisioning Console also enables you to delegate administrative privileges to various administrators and to end users. It provides a single graphical interface for delegated administrators and end users to manage data in the directory. The various provisioning controls are shown or hidden based on assigned privileges. If the user logging in has the "Allow Application Provisioning" privilege, then that user will see the Provisioning Console, with the full set of user provisioning controls.

Virus Scrubber

Контекст.

  • Name of the mail server process that can fetch messages from the Oracle Collaboration Suite Database and pass them through a virus scanner.
  • The Oracle Mail virus scrubber is a server process that scans for and cleans up virus-infected e-mail messages already in the message store. When rapid measures are required to immediately clean virus-infected messages, the virus scrubber prescans a message store to isolate suspect messages from a system, based on headers, subject, or attachment names. Prescanning isolates suspect messages so that users are not able to access them and possibly cause damage. Prescanning never deletes a message. After prescanning, the virus scrubber uses the external scanner to individually scan the isolated messages. A message that is deemed clean or repaired by the virus detection software is restored to its original folder.
