• С. Мисюра. Хочу высказаться относительно вариантов перевода термина "patch". У нас в Центре тех. поддержки РДТЕХ уже не один год стабильно используется термин "исправление" в качестве эквивалента англоязычному термину "patch" ("установите исправление Oracle bug112367" и т.п.). Термин "patchset", соответственно, переводим как "набор исправлений". По-моему, вполне удовлетворительный вариант перевода. "Патч" – все-таки жаргон, и "заплата" – тоже (звучит недостаточно официально, например: "В ответ на ваш запрос за номером 2 от 16 августа 2004 года высылаем вам набор заплат ..." (смешно, не правда ли)).
• А. Золотарев. Наверное лучше "исправления" ничего не найдёшь. Под patch Oracle трактует в основном исправления, а бывает и вот такое, как, скажем "Repository Upgrade Patch". Это, конечно, не "усовершенствование" и, точно не "исправление", а "Утилита миграции репозитория (iAS)". Т.е. почти всегда надо patch переводить как "исправление", а в других случаях – смотреть по контексту (на название и номер патча).
• С. Мисюра. Спасибо Алексею Золотареву за замечание. Он привел пример случая, когда "исправление" не подходит. Но это исключение, а в подавляющем большинстве случаев термин "исправление" вполне подходит. Что же касается термина "программная вставка", то он слишком туманный – неясно программа ли вставляется куда-то или, наоборот, какое-то инородное тело (жучок?) вставляется в программу. Да и всегда ли вставляется (может и замещать существующий фрагмент кода)?

Steve Adams (http://www.orafaq.net/maillist/oracle-l/2001/04/11/0896.htm):

• Under rule based optimization deficient (outer joined) relations are always last in the join order. In general cost based optimization will do the same, but it is not bound to do so. For example, if T2 below is a complex view, then it cannot be merged into the parent query because it is being outer joined. That would mean that the view must be instantiated and accessed via a sort-merge join or hash join or used to drive query. If so, the optimizer may well choose to instantiate the view and drive the query as a nested loops join from there. However, in general it will no do so without a good reason.
  In this case however I suspect that the problem is that at least one of the in-line views T0 and T1 are mergeable. Because the merging of in-line views is done before query optimization, the optimizer never gets to consider the cardinality of the potential instantiations of the in-line views.
