Advanced RMAN with
Arup Nanda
26 - 27 November 2009 Kista, Sweden
RMAN is now undoubtedly the best backup method for Oracle databases right now. This session starts with the basics of RMAN but quickly moves on to the intermediate to advanced topics.
You will learn how to evaluate the performance of RMAN jobs and improve them, if necessary; how to use image copies and incremental merge to keep the backups always at full level without ever taking a full backup; how to configure and check block media tracking; how to check for failures and configure automatic health checks; how to perform block media recovery and check the integrity of the database while it’s up and running. The session will have a lot of real life cases with scripts the attendees can take away to use at their shop.
Objectives:
- Learn how to configure/use image copy backups with incremental merge
- Learn how to configure compression and encryption using TDE wallets
- Diagnose RMAN performance via V$ views
- Strike the balance between performance and effectiveness
- Perform health checks in RMAN
- Use flashback technologies
- Create and use scripts in RMAN
- Create/use catalog including virtual catalog
Topics:
- Configuring RMAN for Image Copies and Backupsets
- Full, incremental and incremental merge
- Configuring compression, including ZLIB2
- Configuring Encryption using TDE
- Configuring healthchecks
- Performance diagnosis and troubleshooting of RMAN
- Scripting - stored and external - in RMAN
