Instant Responsiveness and High Throughput... Improved
For years, organizations involved in telecom, capital markets, defense, travel, and other industries have been using Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database to ensure blazingly fast response times for mission-critical enterprise applications. Recent innovations and integrations have increased its performance and availability and shortened development time for customers caching data from Oracle databases.
Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database 11g is a standalone, in-memory relational database with full persistence and recoverability. It is an innovative, full-featured SQL database built from the ground up to reside in the middle tier. The idea is not to use this database to house all data, but instead to hold the performance-critical subset of data in the mid tier. By bringing data closer to the application and processing queries in an in-memory database, applications are able to access, capture, and update information much faster. And because it's built on open standards and uses standard relational database technology and programming interfaces, Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database 11g is easy to install and use.
A New Database Option
Available as a standalone product, the lightening-fast functionality at the heart of the Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database is also available as a preintegrated SQL cache option for Oracle Database 11g, Enterprise Edition. The new option is called Oracle In-Memory Database Cache.
New features and capabilities in Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database 11g and Oracle In-Memory Database Cache provide three key benefits: simplified integration with Oracle and third-party databases, improved availability features, and the scale-out advantages of grid computing.
- The database cache grid feature enables incremental scale-out of in-memory database caching with online addition/removal of cache grid nodes without service interruption. It also provides data location transparency so that applications need not know where the data resides; each cache grid node can access data from its local memory, from another cache grid node, or from the back-end Oracle database. The database cache grid feature provides transactional consistency across cache nodes with high availability and data synchronization with the back-end Oracle database.
- PL/SQL, Oracle Call Interface, and Pro*C support simplify the use of Oracle In-Memory Database Cache by existing Oracle database applications to improve application response time and throughput.
- Cross-tier high availability delivers improved high availability out-of-the-box, with automated failover of the in-memory databases and applications. Integration with Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Data Guard results in near zero downtime with virtually no data loss in the event of failure.
These innovations will give more customers in more industries the ability to access, capture, and update information much faster, enabling them to attract and retain more customers, sense and respond to business-critical events when they are most valuable, and deliver new services while the opportunity is fresh.
